I just picked up a .243 99c. Its in good shape. I started collecting lever guns and when i saw this I thought it unqiue. It has a detach clip. Nice flip down rear sight. It is also sporting a weaver flip to side scope mount with vintage weaver scope. I will have to learn to post pic. I was wondering value and any other facts about gun model.
very cool site thanks, Matt
The 243's are popular with hunters still, at least around here. Value probably somewhere between $500 and $700 depending on condition and variation.

Pass along the serial number (x out the last 2 digits) and we can provide a date it was made.

It'll get the job done.. now you only need about 29 more models to go! grin

Welcome to the forum!
Matt, it is probably a very excellent hunting rifle. At this time the "C" clip models do not have collector interest unless there is something special about it like the one pictured below. It is an uncatalogued 99C in .300 sav in 99% condition. I would not mind having the one you have though so enjoy it and post some pictures of the monster bucks that you bag with it...!!!!

Sorry Mike.. it's not an uncatalogued version. The 1996 catalog (I think, maybe 1997) listed the 99C as available in 308, 243 and 300 Savage. Had pictures here somewhere of it, but can't find them.

But, it was only made for a couple of years and is probably rarer than the 7mm08 or 22-250. Doubt too many folks wanted the 300 Savage rather than a 243 or 308 in the 90's. Coburn must have a great fondness for the 300 Savage..
Rory, Mine was made in 1999 and was not cataloged that year according to Effie at Savage Arms...!!! If you know otherwise please let me know...!!!

Mike...
Aah.. uncatalogued for that year. Sorry, I thought you meant never catalogued. Have no idea about 1999, sorry.
No apologizing necessary, Just invite me on a hunt this season and I will call it even...!!! grin grin grin

Mike....
Sorry, foxes are very uncommon here. We just have these dangeg big bucks and turkeys running around that need to be culled. grin
oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rgr223cal..thats a nice piece you have there.
Thanks Norm. I have to get around to taking some new pictures with some better lighting. Maybe I will do that tonight. smile

Mike...
I ran across a 99C today that I would like some info on.

Model 99C
.308
tang safety
walnut stocks with impressed "checkering"
S/N A356xxx possibly 4356xxx

It has a 3-9x Revelation scope and the shop is asking $499 for it.
I'd talk them down some if I could. For that same price you can probably pick up a pre-1960 99EG or 99F in 300 Savage, which would be much more reliable and desirable 99 than a clip model.

Ain't a deer in Texas (or Nebraska, or Canada, or elsewhere) that won't die to a 300 Savage.

If you REALLY want that rifle... talk them down $50 at least.

Jmho..
I need another rifle like I need another hole in my head. I've never been all that drawn to the Savage 99's, but this one seems to have caught my eye.

Any info on when it was made? It doesn't look all that old, but that Revelation scope looks like something from the 60's or 70's.

I left out one other thing, it's a detachable magazine gun.
Yep, all the 99C's had clips. Don't have my data here.. early 70's I believe. Give them a bit and somebody will jump in with a date.

I started hunting with a 99C in 284, some of them are darned good hunting rifles. I've learned to hate that impressed checkering though, so just call me spoiled.
A356xxx is going to be end of year 1969 or beginning of 1970, A4356xx is going to also be in 1970.

If it was about need I think I would have about 5 rifles / shotguns in my safe. Bottom line is you can never have too many tools, too many fishing rods, too many lures or too many rifles. Live life by that creed..... and you just might end up single laugh

I took it out and put 2 boxes of hornady 95gr thru it. Shoots good, 1.5 groups at 100yds. Took the old weaver scope off and put more mondern bushnell on it. Now i see why you guys like these rifles.
Nice collection there. I have been looking for a griddle just like that one...!!! smile

Mike....
Yep, take that out and hunt it a year or two. It'll do good for you.

Then pick up a 1950's 99F in 243 and try that. Your collection will start expanding. grin

Good luck this season, bring us back some pics of that rifle and some dead deer!
