I have been given a Savage 20 Gauge single barrel, break action shotgun. The receiver appears to be case hardened from the coloring.
The stock appears to be walnut and the buttplate is black plastic. The barrel is 28" and blue. The shotgun is in very nice condition, so I got interested.

It is marked on the left side of the receiver:
Savage Model 220D
Savage Arms Corporation
Westfield, Mass. U.S.A.

Above that on the barrel is:
Selected Forged Steel
Proof Tested 20GA
2 3/4 inch Chamber

At the lower rear of the left side of the receiver the characters Z3P or 23P in an oval.

Inside the receiver, on the left side, are the number 28 in the forward part and the
letters C M in the rear part
There is no serial number that I can find.
Any way to get an approx date of manufacture or any other info on it?
I figure at least pre 1968, as there is no serial number.

Sorry to be so wordy, but with no s/n I figured a good description would help.

Thanks for any help

Charlie

The 23P in the oval indicates 1963

Wow, thanks Mike! That was quick. It's a nice little shotgun. I don't know what I'll do with it. Free is free, though. Maybe I'll try and find some youngster that would like a first shotgun. Unless.......
Is it worth anything, or are we talking about a $100 gun?

Charlie
$100 in some places and $175 or more in others, pending on the condition or how bad someone wants one. Jim
