OK you Savages'! I am looking for a little info. on a Savage model 65 rifle in .22lr. I find some info., but mostly detailing it in .22mag. this is definitely a .22lr. Any info on this model? Years mfg. and discontinued? Reliability? Accuracy, issues? Anything! Thanks JC

WoW! I would have thought one of the Pro's would have some morsel for me on this model!

The Savage parts manual lists the Savage 34 & 65 as .22's; Model 34M & 65M as .22mag. It appears that the only difference is the stock and barrel (markings).

The Blue Book shows the 34M and 65M and referances the .22 version but does not show it! They do list the 65 in the Steven's section...?

It appears that they were all made starting 1969 and were discontinued around 1973 (ending date is for the mag. not sure on the .22 version).

I guess you could say it is a version of the original Savage Model 4.

Thanks Rick! I checked it over pretty thoroughly and it definitely is a "straight Savage" mfg. and not the Stevens arm of things. I will advise more. It looks like it will soon be mine for a decent price. I will need a magazine or three as this is the only issue, no mag. Thanks again!

I like mannlicher stocked rifles, so I have the single shot mannlicher stocked Savage 63 and 63M that share the same basic action as the magazine fed 65 and 65M.

I don't think that they compare very well with the current productio A/T Savage 22 LR bolt guns. The trigger pulls are iffy and the stocks have a lot of drop, which is OK if you're going to shoot them with open sights, but not so good if you're going to install a 1" tube scope.
