Finally got a Lyman SM for my 1903 and paid dearly for it. It came with mounting screws that would work except that they are too long. The mounting screw bottoms out after one turn so I need a very short mounting screw. Any ideas where I can find the right one?

A local smith could probably tread the screws you've got a little farther along the shank, if I understand your problem correctly. Short of that, Lyman may have what you need in stock. Rod
Try this guy. He's probably got screws that'll work.

The front requires a very short screw - the hole is shared by the trigger/saftey spring screw that is in from the under side. You also may have a replacement screw for the trigger/saftey spring and it might be to long taking up to much of the thread. Check to see how much thread you have and if it looks like enough just cut the front screw down - should have about 1/2 the thickness of the tang.
Hey, Thanks for the help. I'll report back with results when I get her on.

Will also put a plug in for Evans Obsolete screws

He made a set for me a while ago--if you do a search on my old posts in the archives you might still find something.
