Just so ya know, whoever bought that sucker Saturday night didn't beat me to the punch by much.

are you crying or just ranting???????
no not me
Crying and congratulating at the same time?
Where , When talking about the 25-35?????
I would love to see the link. Wouldn't think it would be a .25/35 if it was a M1895....
Ya, I'd like to see what it went for.
This thread sure has got my curiousity ... can anyone post specific details?
BillR
At the risk of getting bashed, I'll say I've never really been a 99 fan, but that thing really has a COOLNESS factor going on.
I love my wife dearly.. told her I might sell 5 or 6 shooters to pay for that. Her response was, "You have that many?".
What a dear.
Any serial number available or selling price?
BillR
So what kind of price would one expect if it was in perfect(or close) condition?
I doubt we could agree on what this one should sell for. Not many with condition have shown up. This one has been worked over but appears to be correct so it's a nice find and a very fair price.
Bill, serial is 4763 and is in the serial range of the large group of carbines.
somewhere in the 5 figure to the left of the decimal range.

My SRC must have been in that lot, it's 4736, letter should be here by next week if JC doesn't have a Christmas rush.
Only other one with the barrel band that I have seen, is the one that Fug owns! # grand would have been Cheep!

I thought you owned one?
BillR, RLG and I own them and I think theres a couple other guys on the forum that have them.
Edited:
Just looked at my notes, it was Steve that has one, Dick had two, not sure if he still owns them. He's been selling off alot of his 1895's. I've got two more wrote down that are in my notes but without owners names. 3468 and 3358. 3358 Coyote Guns sold.
Ya, I'd like to see what it went for.
Calhoun, I guess we should keep them in suspense, I saw it early Sat. morning, let one get away.
Now don't be skin flints boys...where the heck was this..possibly a link or are you hoardin'????
It's really lucky for someone that I didn't see this before it sold
John Allen
has 2 or 3 I Believe it was at The Mercer Fest, 2 For Sure.
They Will be there Come this Summer again.
Steve
Where did yours go Steve?
Where did yours go Steve?
Joe
I still have Mine, Only a Saddle Ring, No Barrel Band.
Steve
Joe. I sold the one that lettered awhile back in the $7K range. Still have one left, but it letters as a rifle and has 1899 forearm, no Barrel Band. You are correct I am selling quite a few of my 1895's collection and moving on to other addictions!
.........Dick
Hi,Would any of you fellas who actually own one of these rifles be able to measure the OD. of the saddle ring for me? The ID. and the thickness of the steel used to make up the ring itself would aid me greatly in manufacturing one to proper specs. I don't want to just use a Winchester saddle ring ,because I think they are both smaller and they are split.
Thanx,Malcolm.
Is it for an actual 1895 SRC or an 1899F?
Whats your serial range?
I noticed that David's new book shows a barrel band 1895 carbine, but does not mention that there were also some without the barrel band. Something for 2nd edition :-).
There are none.
Steve's is more or less an 1895B with an added saddle ring.
You can't call it an SRC because it doesn't have a carbine stock or barrel.
Rather amazed this guy found a thread from 2011.
Don't have my notes... but doesn't somebody have an 1895 SRC that was sent out late without a barrel band?

4763 is sitting in MY safe. Has been since 2/19/13. And $3000 wouldn't even come CLOSE to buying it. i have TWO letters on it. I don't know what you mean by "worked over". I think someone has their wires crossed. I am holding the gun in my hands as we speak.
This is 4763, and there is a lot of metal showing above the lever.
Just my opinion from 5 years ago and from now, worth what ya paid for it.
Also, buttplate extends slightly below the wood.
Not looking to disparage anybody or anything.. it is what it is and I was trying to buy it myself.

Shrinkage,Shrinkage Rory!
Comes with Age,, Not worked over,,Just Shrinkage.
THIS IS 4763The gun came up at Poulin Auction and never met the reserve. It didn't meet the reserve because somebody choked. I was at the auction but didn't know it even had a reserve on it. When I found out it was still available I more than happily paid what the seller was asking, no questions asked. As I said before, 3K wouldn't get a wink and a blink.
I'm with Mad_Dog. No 1895-F's without barrel band.
I do think that the last of the 1895 SRC had the barrel length reduced to 20", the bolt up graded to the 1899 style and may account for why the first year 1899 catalog shows a barrel band SRC.
Anyone know who got Dick's SRC when he sold it? 4727.
My 1895 SRC serial #4775 was one of the 3 shipped from the factory in 1899. It had the barrel shortened to 20" and an 1899 bolt but still has the barrel band. It letters as shipped in June 1899. David
Hi, The S# is: 1435xx which I believe is an 1899SRC made in 1913.Incidently I also need to know the correct front and rear sight group required on a 26" barrel,1899 straight grip, crescent rifle butt, S#2303xx ,made in about 1921.The model type would also be great to know.(Hope I'm not hijacking this old thread too badly).
Thanx, Malcolm.
My 4884 Shipped April 1899
with 1899 bolt is still in my safe
Nice carbines! I'm jealous.
I have that one, #4727, going through Cabela's, 2015. 20" SRACo barrel, don't know if it had an 1895 or 1899 bolt.
Dick as in RLG?
RLG, ya, wonder how Cabela's got ahold of it?
Dick owned it prior to them.

We didn't answer either question that re-started this posting...
1) we did a survey on rings many years back and I can not find the info. Does anyone have it? If not, does anyone have a SRC in his serial range that they can measure? I think we found that Savage did not use a standard size over the years. My carbines are late production and have oval, non welded, thinner wire rings.
2)99-A in the 230xxx range would have a Savage 22B front (Rocky Mt, German silver blade) and a Savage marked flat top sporter rear.
