With all the talk about scoping 99s lately, I would like to add that I enjoy shooting and hunting with scopes. Use receiver sights as well. Though dont have a picture of those.

Hey Roy. No, we looked at gun porn yesterday.
Indeed.

Nice to see all the Stiths as well. Really nice bunch of classy hunting rifles. One question though.............Would this be a "collection" of hunting rifles or just an "accumulation".
I dont know, you tell me.
Nice looking rifles Jeff. IT IS gun porn. Any gun pic is gun porn.....
I dont know, you tell me.
I would say it's a FINE "collection".
Some of those scopes and mounts are as tough to find as the guns that they're sitting on. That 8X booster rig on your .250 R is a sweet looking outfit.
Rod
Rod,
Yes it is. I thought this Lyman scope would be primo perfect for this 250R. The booster really works great. Doesnt lose a bit of clarity. The Alaskan is mint. I dig it, and it fits...
Jeff
Nice group Jeff!!! Very cool!!
Sweet collection RAS. Gun, scope AND Stith porn. Love it! -TomT
A real nice lineup...thanks for the view.
Wayne
I only have two and only one is scoped:
Here with Leupold VX1 3-9x40
Here with Bushnell it came with
Hey Stretch,
Looks like the group is right where it needs to be. Good shooting! I can keep them like that with that 300 99G in the picture. All with a little Weaver J2.5 scope in a stith. That is the one with the deer.
Thanks RAS, but I think that target was at only 75 yards. I've since adjusted to about 3" high at 100, but haven;t been able to duplicate that one group on the right.
Yours is very nice! I haven;t taken anything with my Savages yet. Both in 300.
I like it stretch. Like the raised stock for the scope fit. Shoots good too! Woohoo
Jeff Nice group of rifles ya got there!, I have 2 scoped ones and 4 with stith setups!
here is an old picture of a couple of mine that are scoped up...
We need more rifle porn of the one with the checkered side panels and the stith. What is that rifle?
that is a barely post war or during war 300 EG but I assume the extra checkering is not factory though it is very well done. The more interesting part of that gun is the dual safeties. I really should take that gun out hunting as I never have but it would be a good one.
The gun behind it on the right is a 308F with the same dual safety modification.
here is a close up, early enough to have the EG stamped in the front of the frame. Serial is 427xxx. Someone else would be much better at dating then I would.
Here's a few of mine set up with scopes:
1946 .250 EG with Leupold M7 3X in Stiths
1950s .250 R set up with a Leupold M8 4X in old Leupold Model 3 mounts
1946 30-30 R/T with Lyman Alaskan in 7/8" Stiths
Rod
Very nice,
RAS...I especially like those vintage glasses mounted in Stiths....Here's mine...the scope is about the right age for my '52 99, but the mounts are Weaver (it was D&T'd when I bought it). Rod Pic of one of its tgts...and the other was just purdy...summer on my range, I call it. It's 25 to the rail, 50 to the right and 100 to the left...good hay there! Rod
Rod,
That 250 EG looks EXACTLY like mine with the setup and scope. I had Leupold put in a duplex and change the glass for me on my M7. It is perfect now. You have some beautiful rifles.
Drew,
Is that a sling swivel on the front rifle? If so, I want to warn you that this is going to get some unpleasant sneers at the Savage Fest. What other surprises are there behind those pillows? I hope there isnt a recoil pad festival going on there.
Just kidding. You also have some beautiful rifles.
Nice looking scoped 99s. Keep them coming guys.

Jeff, that front right one has sling swivels but I sold it (sans the stith) to someone here, it is a 300EG also. The back right is a 308F with the dual safety. And I just can not remember what the other F is... maybe a 250??? It was a few years ago.
One thing I can promise is that none had butt pads!!!
I was in a shop today and saw a model you guys would be interested in. I think it was a T or RT, fore end looked like the R/T above, but I don't know those well yet. They thought it was a pre-war R but it lacked the lines on the fore end. Very nice shape, looked unaltered except, sling studs, and had a scope mounted in the front dovetail and again at the drilled and tapped left side at the rear where you normally see a peep. I hadn't seen a mount like it, and the rifle was dang nice. Don't remember the scope, vintage for sure, small diameter. Anybody want the shops name PM me and it's yours. Oh, $825 on the tag. I think it fell in the 350,000-400,000 range for a T, but I should have been more studious for your sake.
I had a good afternoon chasing Savages.
if you get back there try to snap a picture. Would be pretty late for an old style scope and mount. An RT would be well into the 400,000s so probably a T.
Did it have a lot more checkering on the foearm than a post war R or EG?
Sound like a T
R/T would have been in 43xxxx's
did the back scope base use the factory drilled holes in the tang or holes drilled into the side of the receiver?
Pends on caliber, but a T would have a 22" barrel in 300 and 20" in other barrels. Pre war R would be 24" barrel in 300, 22" in the other calibers.

Drew,
I don't know on the checkering. And I could be wrong on the serial range, but I think not. probably won't get back, spent my 99 stash today!

As I said, I wasn't being studious enough. I was quivering over a custom 250-3000. The rear scope base used holes on the left side of the receiver where you often see aftermarket peeps mounted, non factory. BUT, really nice assembly there and had a 3/8" or so round knob with a screw slot for tightening or perhaps adjusting height? I can tell you the barrel was probably 22", 300 Savage, the rifle was light and delightful, hence my assumption T. Like I said, it was super clean, vintage setup, no one would be ashamed of. Scope was small diameter and name brand I'd heard of but forgotten already. Surprisingly clear and plenty useful, although not a low light setup I suspect. Anybody wants to check it out I think they'd take a little less, they deal a bit. Nice rifle in my eyes.
This is the only scoped Savage 99 that I have but Jeff wants it for his collection. LOL!
My scoped 99's...24 of them....
the first pic...left to right:
first 5 are EG's with stith mounts..No holes drilled.
next 5 are model F's.
lasr 3 are model R's.
second pic...left to right:
first 3 are custom 99's.
next 4 are E's.
then a 358 brushgun.
next is a model C in 22-250.
then a model E in 243.
last one is an EG in 250-300 with a williams side mount.
Joe
Hey Rich,
Yes, I would like that rifle and mostly because it came from you. Again, look real hard at that 30-30!
I will email you again real soon.
Hey Boswellbuckhunter
Nice collection! Quick put them away... before the young one grabs one of those books and they all go over like dominoes!!
Boswell,
Nice line of boom sticks there!
RAS
I'm all Weaver on this 99A. This scope is excellent too.

What calibre is your 99A saddle gun?
I gave my minty ( said to be unfired ) 99A, 308win to my step son. He has now decided he would rather have my as new BRNO model 2. So we have done a swap and the saddle gun is coming home. Sure wish it was 250 or 300 savage
Johno
.308WIN. Loaded up or down .308 is always a performer. I favor all the .308 based cartridges in most rifles.
This rifle is a 1979 99A. Was about mint condition when I picked it up just this past summer. Too nice to be a truck gun but it's a nice shooter so it will get a ton of use around here. And it's a keeper...
Nice rifles!!! Wish I had a few scoped 99's.
Okay, I might have one.
1920 1899 SR in 303 with Leupold 2-7x.
Geez, you guys have me wanting a scoped 99 now. Well, maybe a little! I prefer to keep my Savages light and lively sans scope, reserving scopes for the bolt guns, sort of.
Darn nice collections- of that I'm truly envious!
Nice collections guys. Very envious here.
Hey guys, I'm selling/trading the weaver k4w off my 99. It's in the classifieds if anyone in interested.
Thanks,
Matt
I only have one, 99R in 358, first year it was offered in this caliber. Factory D&T so I added a Leupold 3-9X Compact.
Shoots nice little groups with my handloads.

I like that one alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Originally an 1899B in 303 with B engraving, checkering, and English walnut stock. Letters as having none of it and being sold 2 years later than SN would indicate. Hmm. Now chambered in 250-3000 with a Johnson Automatics barrel, reblued, refinished, and old pad. Shoots tiny little groups, nice family heirloom.

That's a real cool one....Do you ever take that one hunting?
Took it out for antelope does a few years back. Been thinking of taking it out deer hunting, but haven't yet.

I have a first year 358R... bet they are close in serial as they tended to build in lots. 909,2xx
Some real nice ones.
Rory like that one, stock looks a lot heavier than normal. Yep really like that
Johno
Only one with a scope right now. Grey SRC 30-30. I set it up with a new old weaver K-1 with a rifle dot. My Oldest hunted with it last year.
Gary, ya need to work on that. Here's a few to aim for...
Guy could make a T-Shirt out of that photo Rory
A guy could..
You guys may want to cover the Winchester wording up since its the only one readable!!!!
just saying !!!
So I see that you're a belt and suspenders kind of guy. Gun case and locks!
Given that there are no children living in my house most of mine are stashed about loaded while I wait for the yellow hoard to hit the neighborhood. I could be paranoid but the voices are telling me that I'm just prudent.
Oh, I would post a pic but I'm too inept. Suffice to say that all my hunting 99s are presently scoped. Mostly old refurbished Weavers but also a couple of vintage Leupolds. While I don't endorse drilling and tapping any undrilled 99 these days I do look for drilled and tapped ones for shooters.
Remember the old saying George " just because i'm paranoid does'nt mean i'm not being followed "
You don't have one of the old US made 2-7 or 3-9 redfield scopes hidden away by chance? Think it would work well on my 99A/C combination rifle
Johno
Suspenders hold my pants up but I still keep my knife on my belt.
Remember the old saying George " just because i'm paranoid does'nt mean i'm not being followed "
Johno
Or, as I keep reminding my family, "You'd be paranoid too if everyone was out to get you."
Not factory d&t, so it's an EG. All 50's 99R's were d&t.
That's a very distinctive scope base.
Here's an abomination to all tried and true Savage collectors-
Savage 99 375 with Trijicon 2.5-10 x 56mm with 30mm tube and lighted reticle. Can't get a good picture of the triangle on top of a post reticle. This is a light gathering machine for timber hunting.
Vintage dude! How's the peep working for you?
That's the Stith Master Mount. The peep is windage and elevation adjustable. Too bad you had to put holes in the receiver ring for it.
Stith made that mount and the no drill mount. I like the no drilled mounts better.
Anyways, still takes care of business on the homefront.
Take care...Jeff

I dunno; It may be factory D&T but you can't see it under the bases. Hmm. Were the Rs stamped on the side of the ring or the top?
nice rifles guys ,i have 3 an H with 7/8 stith
1972 A 250-3000
an E in 308
and comming soon a C in 243 with lupi mounts

OK then it is an EG as there is no visible stamping on the receiver ring. Scope/ring is a Stith/Kullmorgen Bear Cub Master. Haven't shot using the peep yet, though as noted it is fully adjustable. Range time is hard to get these days.
