This question doesn't have anything to do with collecting but I figured there was enough knowledge here to answer it. I want to build a .219 Zipper on a '99 Sav. If I use a donor .300 action I know I have to alter the bolt face but will I have to change the spool too?
build it on a .303 and you don't need to change anything, just set the headspace, and maybe tweak the extractor.
I think one of the guys here built a Zipper on a Savage 99.
Several exist. I agree that a .303 is the platform to build from.
Or .30/30. A nice mint .32/40 or .25/35 would fill the bill too.

Tour Better Off using a Bolt Face from a 22 H.P.,or 30-30, or 25-35
Yes,
25-35 would be PERFECT, as that is the 219 parent case. I think there was even an 1899 frame reportedly from a 25-35 recently on gnbrker.
A donor 303 will be the most common candidate, and likely to be the most cost effective.
I waited for 1899Sav to give up one of his, and waited,..and waited...
Then I tracked down another project that someone else had started, and didn't want to work on any more...very fun cartridge in a 99, no worries about pointie bullets setting each other off in a tube magazine. With a re-bored 222Rem barrel it's a 3/4 MOA gun out to 150 yds.
A fun cartridge... I've got one of these on my project list too. Got both std & 28 deg reamers. Just need to pick up a barrel...

Yeah, I just have a chance to get a .300 acton cheap and wondered about using it.
270 titus!! that's what you want to build with your 300 action
Either that or a .358 Savage!
I want to build a .219 Zipper and was wondering if a .300 action would work and what I'd have to do to make it work and if it was worth the trouble. But no one here seems to know. Thanks for your comments anyway.

I think the action would work fine for the .219 Zipper. One may have to rework the extractor, and definitely have to swap out the rotor. Personally I would start with an action that originally was used for a .30/30-class cartridge, but WTH, just a little more bother involved with using a .300 action. By far the biggest stumbling blocks would be having a .219 barrel made and fitted, with all the hassles of finding a .219 reamer in this day and age. Then there's the matter of handloading dies.
Thanks gnoahh,
I may go with a .30/30 or .303 action but I've got a chance at a good deal on this .300 and was just wondering how much problem it would be to use it. The barrel on it is no good and the extractor is broken so needs to be replaced anyway. I've already found dies an 30 or 40 rounds of brass through the internet. I've also found some places that will chamber a barrel and a 'smith here in the Boise area that will fit it. I've also found a source for replacement stocks. It amazes me what you can find on the internet if you just take a little time to search. Thanks again for your help.
i have a compleat 22HP action, but don't know how to get it there . I can check with the guy that brings in my guns from the states and see if the reverse is possible,.If you are interested.
