This is a long shot question, I know, but has anyone here ever replaced either the breech bolt spring or the hammer coil spring themselves on a Savage Model 6A?

Both springs sleeve onto the same internal rod and are captured by a small steel washer that appears to be either staked or driven on. That's the part of the job I'm uncertain of?? I've the skills and all the proper tools, but lack the knowledge of how this washer is removed.

This is all that is in need of doing to have the gun operational, but don't want to cock things up here by forcing a retaining washer that isn't meant to be forced. Any hands-on experience you fellas might have with this would be very appreciated about right now.

All Best,

Rob Harris

If you don't get an answer here you might try RimFireCentral.com in the Savage section.

Rob, I have never had to replace those parts but Rick's suggestion of RimFireCentral is a good one to follow, there have been several posts on the repair & rebuilding of these rifles and a few regulars there have a lot of hands on experience.

'Thanks' for a direction to go, fellas. I'll definitely give that website a try. This particular gun is just in too nice a shape to not make the effort of repair.
