I thought you all might enjoy some photos from my morning bear hunt here in Oregon. I was packing the 99F in 358. Looking at the photos you can see why I prefer the lightweights! grin No sightings this morning, but I spotted a very large black bear here two days ago. I tried predator calling this morning with a fawn bleat to no avail. Nice day to be out as we had BIG thundershowers last night, so deer were out in abundance this morning. Photobucket is screwing with me, sorry for the sideways photos! They're right in photobucket but all won't transfer over correctly.

Foggy on the hike in and at the first stand.

The fog lifted a bit later in the morning.

Nothing like the Catskills where I use to hunt. I,d be lucky to get a shot off more the 50ft. Really beautiful country out by you.

Very nice Roy! Is that your foot path, or the bear's?
That looks eerily similar to where I bear hunt in Clinton County Pa. At least that's what it looked like in 1984 when I shot my first bear. It was logged in 1983. Now its really thick and grown up with rhododendron. Makes excellent bear hunting , but no more 300+ yard shots. I shot my second bear in 2006 walking to the stand I was in when I shot the first one. First bear was about 275 lbs live weight shot at about 325 yards (measured with a rangefinder much later)with a ruger tang safety 30-06. Second bear shot at 26 big steps with a west German mark v weatherby in 270 weatherby magnum. That is a good looking area there Fireball.

Whoops! Next time! Found another large bear this evening way up high about 45 miles from home. Don't know if I'll get to chase that one or not...
