Had a call from a contact that would like to put a side mount scope on his 340 in 22 hornet
Could any of you fine gentalmen tell me please which mount it would be
Cheers
Weaver and B-Square both made one. No experience with either, but a buddy has a weaver and it's so-so. I've heard the B-Square is good.
This might help-

This is the proper Savage mount for the M340. His price is way high IMO. You can see from the link where I see them most often.

Many Thanks

49.95?!! I think Numrich still lists the Savage mount. It was 24.95 last time I checked...
Whoa! I just got a Sun Optics side mount base for my 340 in .222 Rem and it is heads and shoulders better than anything else I have tried. It uses Weaver rings and positions the scope farther ahead than the old Weaver side mount does. Also, the Weaver mount is not quite centered over the bore...it is slightly offset to the left. The Sun Optics base is centered over the bore.

Now I,m really confused which is not hard for me.
I have a Sav 340 in 222 that I just replaced a 3/4" Weaver tube mount with a 1" Weaver tube mount that I'm happy with. The rifle has a Weaver #1 4 hole base on it that I didn't replace.
What I don't understand looking at the Sun Optics piece that Amazon shows is, does the Weaver ring attachment that you need for the Weaver base fit onto the Sun Optics Base or do you just put Weaver Rings On to the Sun Optics Base?
I think the B-Square mount is the same style as the Sun Optics. Both have a rail system along the top you attach Weaver style rings onto.
The Sun Optics base accepts any Weaver-style detachable rings, such as the Leupold QRW, Warne or Weaver rings. The rings that come with a Weaver side mount 340 base will NOT work.
I have that Sun Optics mount on mine and like it. It has just enough clearance that I can see the iron sights too, but is still low enough to shoot well with the scope. It has a lot of fore and aft adjustment room for the scope too.
I think I have a B-Square. Just mentioning to let you know I had to remove a slight amount of wood from the stock to clear the mount and align the holes. Dremel tool got it done nicely.
Here's one I'd never seen until now-
Well Knock me down with a feather
I have had one of those mounts on my shelf for 20 years or so
I was told it came off a 99 but the curve in the mount was the wrong contour
My one at some stage has been soldered onto a rifle
I never thought to try a 340 to see if it fitted
There is no makers markes that I can find on it, but it has an Ajack scope fitted in the mounts which I need to find an elervation wheel for
Fireball2 is yours soldered on to the reciever?
Anybody eles with info?
Cheers Graham
Absolutely no info on it. Looks pretty clearly to be a quick disconnect mount tied to a separate base. Here's the LIVE AUCTION. Have mercy on this sinner fellas-
His contact info is here on the auction and coincidentally, he has some very nice 99's on the block, but nothing uncommon.

Well I have looked through many books and finaly found a referance to the sight Fireball2 posted
It is a Model A mount that Stroeger arms Marketed from around the 1930's
If you have OLD GUNSIGHTS & RIFLE SCOPES by Nick Stroebel
it is on page 572
They state that the mounts appear to be of European Manufacture
Looking at the suggested values the buyer in that auction brought the mount and got the rest buckshee
That is all I can find at present
Cheers Graham
