Serial # is: 900, XXX

I cant read the LBC very well. Might be a G?

Thanks,
Jeff
Very end of 1955, possibly very early 1956. If it looks like a G, then 1955.
Yeah, it "kind of" looks like a G under a magnifying glass.
I didn't think the 308 came out in the F until 1957.
Murray sez the 308 F didn't come out until 1957 however other 99 models were made in 308 as early as 1955 , why not the F also ?
It's not like Murray has never been wrong.

Here's some excerpts from my records, Jeff... make your "best guess". grin

G= 1955: 75858x(14G), 759100(early 55-Rick99), 76187X(G), 7680xx(17G), 7709xx(23G), 774xxx(G), 9001XX(23G), 903xxx (Rick 99 wrote, The last of the 700,000 serials & the 1st of the 900,000 overlap.)

H= 1956: 7817xx(7H), 782xxx(16H), 7831xx(17H), 9068xx(17H), 908.6xx (Rory's), 9097XX, 9097xx (17H), 917xxx, (16H), 917413(17H), 92248x(6H), 92258x(17H), 9286xx(16H),

Hope this helps... smile

Interesting Jeff. There you go rewriting the book. wink grin
Considering the 308 Win was introduced in 1952 and pretty much in full production by most gun manufactures by late 54 early 55...it's hard for me to believe Savage didn't get on board until 57

Just sayin
It was the 243 and 358 that came out in 1957 I think.

All of the first 2000+ plus 99s built in the 900,000s were all in 308.

I have had two that have a "G" lever boss code. 902,126 which I shot a few deer with and then sold. (LBC-17G)

And 902,577 which has dual safeties. LBC-25G.

55...but it may have been 57 before we saw any 99s in those calibers?
I was referencing when Savage 99s were available in 243 and 358, not when it was released by winchester.
916,XXX was an "F" in .358 Win and had H date code.
yep, I have two 358s with H LBCs but I am talking about advertising, sales notifications, not when they were actually built... and I could be wrong... Savage may have advertised the 358 and 243 in 1956... just speaking from memory here.
Looked through a jewelers glass on it today, its definitely a "G"
