Wondering if a fold down rear sight was something that was ever on about a 1930 vintage 99G takedown (.250-3000).
Friend has one and says I can have it. It was on his 99 in 300 savage. Also Premil, not sure of the model. I believe it had a straight rear stock. Right now nothing in my rear sight slot. After this rifle season, I may take scope off and monkey with open sights. I would think tang probably way to go but if these are period sights that would have been on this style firearm, I may just go with them.
Also, still looking for a blade for the front integral barrel sight. Nothing seems to be available. I know I could fashion something. What is on there now is a home made piece of brass that looks awful. I suppose I could shape it but I really would like to pick up what it came with.
What say yee?
Thanks,

The only folding rear sight that a 1930's G might have had was a Lyman #6 (2 leaf). Most likely any rifle that shipped from the factory at that time had standard sights. Pretty common practice at the time to replace sight after purchase.

I'm a little lost with this part. Pre-mil is before 1960 and would not have a straight stock unless before WWII. I'm not sure which rifle you are referring to.

I'm guessing by straight stock he means non-perchbelly? Also, wouldn't a 1930'ish 99G have a front sight dovetail rather than an integral sight? Thought the integral sights stopped around 1927.
Maybe he means non Monte Carlo.
Well my pal brought up a sight for me. Not what I expected but I think I will like it better.
He came up with a Marbles tang sight in the box. He said he used it on a .303 he sold then on his .300.
In any event, he said it was about 20 years old so no, not one of the originals but for $75 that he wants for it, a pretty good deal .
Now I need to find a front sight for my G with integral front sight mount. Anyone have one laying around that they would be willing to sell?
Thanks again,
