A friend of mine bought a 358 R in excellent condition at the Huntsville, ON gun show in about 1986. Paid $400. Immediately turned down $700.
Haven't seen another since and suspect that one is now south of the border.

I know the price range for a 50% gun..., I found a 358R last summer, but when it arrived it had a busted butt. I kept it because I imagined how unlikely it would be to find another. Insurance gave me $114 for the damaged stock, which didn't even cover the first therapy session.

I would say an 8+ on the rarity scale. 90% would not surprise me if it pulled over $2000.

They are hard to find, glad I found mine back in 98. Here's mine, 1956, I think that's the first year it was offered in 358. Paid a wooping $500 for it. Still in really nice shape.
With what they bring today I've though about selling it, but then I'd just pizzz away the money and end up with nothing.
It's along side my 88 that's been rebored to a 338 Fedeal
Two pretty nice calibers.

I hunted moose with mine for 10 days in BC... did not end in success and certainly put some marks and wear on the gun but heck, they were made to be used!

Mine was never a safe queen. But when it was shot with a barrel obstruction the owner in Alaska had it fixed right and today it shoots well and always a one shot stop so far on whitetail. Never needed to use more than a 200 gr bullet. It is a Series A from the 70's and NOT an R.
