I like 99s, but I'm not a 99 mechanic. Will a takedown barrel screw into s solid frame? If so, would it function as a solid frame rifle? like I said, I am no 99 mechanic.

Yes, the factory put some TD barrels on some solid frame actions so it will work. It'll stay put if you get it tight enough.

Will only work if they were all made before 1960.

And you should get the headspace checked if you swap out any barrel.

ps: I have an early 1930's 99R with a takedown barrel on it, not the only one out there either.
