I took the 18895 carbine, the 1899 carbine with the lightfoot setup and old K4, the 99E 22HP with Stith and ancient K2.5 and 99F 22HP with Stith and K2.5 to the range yesterday.
The 1895 has a fine peep and shot the following group with 27 g 3031 and Sierra 150 flatpoint bullets.

I've worked the 1899 carbine up to 31 g 3031 w. Sierra 150 FP. The group has gradually opened from under one inch w. 27 g to 1 9/16 w. 31 g. Good enough to shoot an elk at 100 yds.

Hunting season is just around the corner.

The photo of the 1895 group was at 50 yds.
For some reason the text got lost for the third and fourth photos. The third photo shows the 99F's group. The 99E partially keyholes the 70g Norma's at 25 yds. The bore looks good. I didn't bother shooting it at 50 or 100 yds. Anyone got any suggestions about how to fix this?

I sure like my Lightfoot mount on the 1899 carbine. I may get one for the 99F so I can put some modern glass on it.

the keyhole will either be the bore worn out or the length of the bullet is wrong for the twist in the barrel.

I wish I even dared to shoot my 1895 SRC. I figure if I did someone here might hunt me down and do bad things to me............ Nice shooting. Good enough for 99% of hunting situations.

I agree, it's lots of fun to take a couple oldies to the range. Not only are they great to shoot, but you sure get a lot of interest from the other shooters that have never seen a gun like that. You know, the kind of gun without the black plastic stock and rails top and bottom on the barrel. Just funnin' with the AK fans.

I just had to shoot the 1895. But after doing serious damage to my 99DL 284 last hunting season I don't think I'll take the 1895 hunting. I had a few of those light loads left from the workup on the 1899 SRC so I figured I might as well use them up. I might load up a few more 27 g loads and take it to the range again. It was too much fun shooting it the other day.

I remember you saying you took a fall and dinged up the stock on the DL. Was it more serious than that? Cracked or broken maybe?

No, it just did cosmetic damage and knocked the scope off zero. It had been in pristene condition. I put big gouges in the beautiful case on the lever and on the stock above the lever. I rezeroed the scope and killed an elk with it about a month later. Here's a pic of the damage.

Dang, that's too bad. Person could always restock it with something custom. It'd be worth it on a 284. I took the easy route and just went factory stocks on mine. It works.

Just turn it over and hang on the display board till the next hunt.

I took the 284 DL out of the display and replaced it with a 243 DL last year. If I put it back in the display at some point I may turn it so the damage doesn't show but then again I stress the fact that the rifles are still good guns to hunt with and I may just show it with the damage and an explanation.
I've got two elk licenses this year. If I fill the first one with the SRC and still have time to hunt I'll probably go back to the 284 for the second hunt or maybe some other 99 that I haven't hunted with yet. David
