I have acquired a Savage model 1899 takedown in 22 HP cal. It weighs approx 6.5 lbs and has a 20" barrel. The sn is 1458xx and was probably mfg'd in 1913.It has sling swivels, Buckhorn rear sight and Integral front blade. Is this the standard configuration and specifications for this model/caliber ?? Any additional information would be appreciated.

probably shouldn't have swivels, but, on an average gun they don't hurt enough so's you'd notice.
You didn't mention if it is it a takedown model or not but that barrel length and caliber would have to be? It is most likely an 1899 H. Sling swivels weren't standard.

Elwood,

From orig. post - "I have acquired a Savage model 1899 takedown in 22 HP cal. "

You musta missed that. Why do you feel the 20" would indicate an "H" over another model?

Ram:
You're correct, I missed the point about the takedown. Sorry. As far as the 20" barrel, I thought that would make it either an "H" or an "F" and since it is a takedown, guess it would be an "H".

You both missed the important part. In 1913 the 1899-H was the ONLY model chambered for the .22HP.
