What would the value be on a 99R with no serial number ?
They should all have a serial number.....are you saying it has been removed somehow?
No it hasn't been removed. This has been discussed on here before. If I remember correctly some theories were that maybe some employees built their own gun at home.
Any inspection stamps on it at all? An SP stamp on the barrel? Anything on the front of the receiver under the forearm, or underneath the buttplate/buttstock?
To the best of my recollection no there is not. If I get home early enough tonight I will check again.

Sounds like an inside job to me.

Would love to hear what you found out, after a second look?

Would like to hear how you buy or sell a rifle without S/N ?

Serial numbers were optional on firearms at that time, so as long as it hasn't been removed it's perfectly legal. Firearms with defaced serial numbers have been illegal since the 1934 NFA I think.

If he puts the right price on it, I'll be happy to show you.
Okay guys here is what I found. It does have an SP on the barrel. No numbers in the forearm. The stock and the buttplate both have 388 on them. Other than that there are no markings at all.
388 could be a valid assembly code, I guess. Though I don't remember seeing any 50's rifles without at least one letter in it (but I haven't looked at ALL that many). The SP would indicate the barrel was tested on a rifle, wouldn't it? At least I presume the "Savage Proof" stamp came after the test fire?
Okay I was wrong about the forearm not being marked. It is marked 8 EJ 11.
Those sound like the assembly codes from that era. The 388 - who knows??

How about a few pics? Sounds Interesting.
Is it factory?
Is it factory repair?
Is it bubba?
Is it lunch box special?
I will get some pics this weekend.
