Hi All,
There is a 99f in 284 Win on GB right now. I have wanted one for a LONG time.
It has sling swivel screws.......
How much do you think that will detract? I am considering placing a bid but I don't want to over pay.
It is no reserve right now with zero bids.
I might be wrong, but the starting price of $1,597.50 is about twice what I would want to pay for that rifle.
Unless you absolutely HAVE TO HAVE a 284, the actual performance potential isn't enough different from the 308 to justify the much higher costs involved. I know that I wouldn't use the maximum published loading data for the 284 in a Savage 99, but I'm not convinced that the 99 has enough margin of strength and gas handling design to be the right action for a reloader to push the pressure ceiling.
Or so it seems to me.
EDIT: Oops! I didn't see the rifle that you were looking at. If I was bidding and I really HAD TO HAVE a 99 in 284, I'd think that $800 would be a fair price.
I see that one for 1,597.50. There is another that is at zero with no reserve.
I have 284 caliber Winchester 88 and quite a few others with tons of components. I want the Savage brother.
I have 4 88s, 2 carbines and 2 rifles, and 6 99s; 2xDE, 2xDL, 1xF, 1xPE. I can't even remember when I last looked at them, much less shot them.
Swivel screws on that gun are a very small detractor in my book. The value is all about being a .284 with rotary mag!!
I hunt one and have a second, love em.
To me, anything not original detracts. Let the other guy pay for it. Wait for a right one. It is out there.
Hard to find any F that doesn't have sling swivel screws.
One without will bring more money.
If you are going to hunt it, they sure do come in handy.
Bid accordingly.
