+ ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only person who I "miss" on this forum is Jed.

But, OTOH, I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to internet "relationships". The number of rude comments made here on a regular basis are enough to drive polite people away. Too many people making personal attacks, rather than discussing differences of opinion in a civil manner.

EDIT: But the "ignore" feature is handy if you want to avoid people who you find to be regularly rude and/or annoying.
There are a number of people that only correspond via PM or group email now. I communicate often with people that hardly ever post here anymore.

Fewer people asking for it.
Folks just holding their breath waiting on Davids book to be released. Here is a non savage photo for those that want something to bitch about. Tom

Neat picture! I got one pic of a bobcat this year, but it was really blurry.

I believe the old guard has the information pretty well sorted and assimilated by now, that's the point of asking questions and having discussion. Much of that occurred years ago.

As a new guy, I'll add that we are not finding the numbers of older 1899's and even older 99's that used to be available because, guess what, they're being collected. So, less to discuss.

I was just on the phone with a couple folks. Neither post "allot" but when they do, folks in the know listen. To absolutely quote one of them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"there is no collectors forum anymore".

PM is often used to offer to buy guns from other members that post about them.
I personally got tired of posting up things to discuss when almost nobody else bothers. All it would take is for a few folks to post up an oddball or unusual gun once a month each after the auction hammer falls on it, and this forum would stay interesting.
Somebody ask about a photo of a bobcat?
Here you go!
Night time visitor at my place in PA.

Ditto but RAM places a close second.
Ram posed better questions to get the ball rolling. Jed was the Trump of the forum. He was soooooooooooooo eloquent.

This is true of the whole Campfire, sadly this is what has become of this site. Criticism and foul language have become the norm, leaving little time or space for decency...
Oh the stories you miss.......

You don't want to hear any BS, so I won't tell you any

What I wanna know. Was that model factory drilled and tapped. Yeah it is my calender....business you know.
This place will be as interesting as we care to make it. I like Rory's idea of posting more oddball (closed) auction rifles for discussion.
My wife.....yes I live in fear..claims photbucket will swallow my phone computer alive so I am not allowed. Any ways I got a custom E in 300 and my refinish work I would share my email is jwcowdoc@gmail.com thanks. Sorry I am such a puss.
I log on several times a day just hoping to learn something. I remember when Roy used to get lit up for his desecration of sacred items, but I always learned something. I may have a couple questions from an auction coming up soon. The auctioneer has a big "no sales to out of state bidders on firearms" sign. But, I called ahead and he said he will honor my C&R, some don't. There are 2 38-55's and an engraved model. I'll wait till the last minute, probably the night before the sale. My buddy and I are planning on hitting the Motel 6 so we have time to look, take notes, and ask questions. My knowledge will fit in one of the dimples on a thimble, so I wait for the learning to begin. The current thread on the late 250-3000 is the kind of stuff I want to learn. The 250-3000 rifle is high on my want list, so if there are variants, I need to save up twice as much money so I can get both. There is a core group here that keep me coming back, Joe.

I've been lit up all over this place. It's normal. Go out on a limb and expect it. Take the safe ground and no one bothers you.

But one thing I've learned is, if I am playing with Savages and am dealing with something, someone else has/is/will be also, so I don't mind bringing up most anything Savage. It's just harmless information people, no need to get the panties in a twist. Someone, somewhere is interested at that very time on the very topic. That's what discussions are for. Don't like the discussion, sit it out. I do all the time.

But more and more it seems like some guys would rather flame anybody than keep their trap shut and learn something a little different, maybe a little outside their comfort zone. Hell I got flamed twice just on this thread! On the 1960E thread I'm called a fool for pointing out the obvious; "the rifle is legitimate".

Play it safe and kiss azz, get along fine. Case in point. A guy flames me out of the blue one day. No idea what the issue is. 4 people send me PM's asking what's up with _ _ _. No idea, just a normal day here. I tell him by PM he's being a dick for no reason, and people noticed, so what's up. He didn't like being called on it so put me on ignore. I try to get him to talk it out a few months later, ignored. I wish him a happy birthday when it comes around, and he flames me on this very thread.

So, really, who has the problem? Why are people leaving, because of a ceracoated 99 we talk about, or because they're tired of being flamed?

Its all good. Knowledge is power.
I tell you one thing. When I get flamed aka corrected on this forum I had it coming. From reloading to collecting to shooting heck even bow hunting. I got learned good here and am thankful for it.

Amen brother. These guys with vaults full of Savage lever guns could sure enough be posting something to talk about instead of complaining there is no Savage collectors forum.

But, it takes a little work.

Give it up, Joe. I'd sooner talk to a piss hole in the snow. He's about clueless. Not even worth the effort.

I'm to much like you, I call a spade a spade, always have, everyone here knows that, it's no surprise.

When people start talking about criticism like it's a bad thing? This site has always looked at a gun and told the truth.

When did we get so touchy feely? Grow a pair.

Oh BooHoo, LBK doesn't like me....better start a post. WTF?

I need a drink.
I got the 40 creek going. Stop on by Joe.
I get on several times a day. I've learned tons from you guys and really appreciate the help many of you have offered.

On the other hand I simply ignore the negative banter.
I guess I don't take too much on internet forums personal, could be a symptom of my work day where I have to deal with people with bigger issues. I know I got interested in this forum first to learn about 99s and then about other Savage models. I say bring on the discussions of the 99 and all its variants as well as all of the other small arms made by Savage. And if a picture of a scantly clad butt of the female persuasion happens to get slipped in from time to time then all the better, I think we are all guys here. By the way I think that sling she's packing is called a G-Sling!

Say the word and I'll send it out.
The only thing to remember; No matter how good looking she is somebody somewhere is already tired of her!

Don't stop posting Calhoun, I enjoy your posts and although I don't always comment it doesn't mean I'm not reading/learning, and mostly, what I have to say you already know. This goes for some others on here too. I really DO hate to see the acrimony that develops here because it is a very informative place. Biggest bunch of enablers on the web, I've probably bought 15 99's in the last 4-5 years because of you guys and I'm not exactly Donald Trump! Regards 21
^^^ What 21 said. I'm lucky, I think I'm only averaging a little over one a year. But, since I retired, my wife is getting tired of me being in the way. I told her I will not get another job, I have plenty of paying projects as soon as my knee gets better and this weather breaks. But, if I do get so bored that I get a job, every penny I make is going into the restoration of my 68 Cuda convertible, and more 99's with condition, Joe.
21, "...what I have to say you already know."

When RAM and I started answering questions about 15 ago on the old Gun&Knife board I didn't know much more than the people asking the questions. I learned a lot from digging up answers. My answers were not always correct but you learned from that, too. We have covered a lot of subjects since then and there are still a lot of subject to cover or cover better.

Now days for me it is not so much learning something new (with Savage there is always more to learn) as learning something that I have forgotten. So, post away. It's all good. The value it holds is only dependent on where the reader is on the information tree. There is always some ahead of you and some behind. Learning something new, or something you forgot, is what keeps me coming back.
I've gained a lot of knowledge from posters here, and for that I'm grateful. I've also been able to purchase some parts here that just weren't available anywhere else. I don't see what the bitching is about.
+1 on what gregintenn said. I don't post much because I don't know a lot.
I do miss jed's and boltman's posts though.

Mike
I enjoy this site as much as any on the internet. I think the guys here are swell- I respect the whole bunch. I learned a long time ago everybody brings something to the party, including this one. It is truly a Moveable Feast for the way it continues to evolve. Evolution is good. Change is good, for without it we grow stale and set in our ways- and curmudgeons are born and things get boooooring.

I tend to get excited about something, learn all I can, and then grow disinterested and move on to the next thing. I vouchsafe that would have happened with me and Savage lever actions too had it not been for y'all. You keep it interesting, and now Savages hold a firm place among the gun types that have held constant sway for me all my life. But, more importantly I have made friends with people I would have never met were it not for this forum.

Has the flavor of the forum changed? You bet, and several times at that over the 10 years I've hung out here. Do I care? Nope, for it has never changed for the worse- just sort of shifted direction a bit from time to time. Do I miss some of the guys who no longer stop by? Sure, but I suspect they had good reasons for drifting away, and anyway people change. It's what happens. (I'm Friends with Jed on Facebook, and by all accounts he is living la dolce vita down in Florida by the way.)

Most of us have talked the subject of Savages to death, and perhaps even gotten a bit jaded from over exposure. That's to be expected. The trick is to keep an open mind and an open attitude toward learning and sharing what we learned. Haven't we all, those who've been here a while, said something dumb or mis-stated a fact or pissed someone else off? I sure have, and I like to feel that I've grown from it.

Whew. I'm thirsty now. I'm gonna have two (or five) fingers of Sailor Jerry now. Y'all better still be here when I get back! wink
What he said!
WOW! Well said buddy.
The difference between manners and none. Well spoken Gnoahhh.
I'd post more but " this page has to be reloaded" six or seven times just to post, so I don't anymore.
This forum by and large is extremely knowledgeable, opinionated and occasionally brutally forthcoming. Warts and all, is worth the price of admission. Sometimes quantity over quality gets to the best of us. Some posts are hollow without any real merit, virtually adding zilch. Other post speak volume in one or two sentences. Sort em out, take the good forget the azzholes and move on. Just my 2 cents worth from a Savage novice.
