I dove head-first into the 22HP world just a couple months ago, with a little help help from my friends..with a little help, a little help from FRIENDS! Saddlering, 1899Sav, and Gnoahhh, Thanks!

...I was all set to be disappointed, setting myself up by reading about "acceptable 1-1/2" groups at 50 yds", and Ken Waters admitting that the imp was the one cartridge that he could never get shooting how he expected...

Well, after trying only S&B factory 70gFMJ loads, two different bullets, and six different powders, I think I've started to get over my disappointment.

Mind you this is only 50 yds, 5 shots (almost) touching, and I'm happy!

...yes, near miracle, right?

That is the best shooting 99 take-down that I've ever seen.

Ah, but the true test is it's ability to bring down tigers! Just kidding.

I can't find the target now, but I think I was getting 1" groups at 100 yards with my 99F, Weaver K2.5, Stith mount and factory Norma 70 gr. soft nose ammo. I don't think tigers would be a problem at 25 yards since the F killed (well, I pulled the trigger)a doe antelope at a little over 200 yds.

Yeah, if you beaned a tiger in the head at 25 yards with an Imp you would undoubtedly kill it. The true test of guts would be in letting a man eating tiger get that close to you in the first place. At that point I'll guarantee you nothing you're holding in your hands will seem big enough, but I guess a .22HP would be better than a sharp stick!

I guess Savage's ad campaign of a 100+ years ago worked. All these years later we're still discussing the merits of using Savage rifles on critters that view humans as a source of protein, and .22 HP's are still being bought and sold.

Very nice shooting, and a nice 99. As I recall Mule Deer wrote a piece on the Imp and said that his rifle would shoot .224" diameter bullets just fine.

There was an article in American Rifleman some years ago by a British fellow who grew up in India. His father, being British, wouldn't own an American firearm, but the author loved American guns. When a teen, he bought a 99EG in 300 Savage. He shot a deer in the jungle with it, and then was charged by a tiger, which he then also killed. It seems that the tiger was stalking the deer he shot, and then bolted in surprise right at the author. This goes to show that the Savage rounds WERE sufficient to kill a tiger. I'm not so sure about the Imp, though.
