New to forum, longtime 99 owner, 6 over last 40+ years. Need forearm washer for early '50s 99F, 300 Sav.

'washer' does not compute. describe what you are looking for.

do you mean:

-putting a rubber O-ring between the forearm and barrel?
-or-
-you need the metal ferrule in the forearm that the screw travels through?

i'm guessin it's this:

If that's true it's quite a challenge since the F barrel stud is welded or sweated on and doesn't use the dovetail design. I've never seen that part for sale anywhere.

I use the dishwasher. Sorry for the stupid respone. I know some guys use a rubber O-ring between the screw and the ferrule. This was not factory but I think its done to improve accuracy by relieving any stress the forearm can transmit to the barrel from the receiver. Some guys say you can do this by relieving just enough wood from the back of the forearm to make a snug fit or by not putting excessive torque on the screw.

Well, never too old to learn...I thought the forend screw wasn't snugging up against the forend because there was a washer missing, but my older model 99 in 250 Sav fits well and no washer, so I may just have aloose fit (hole in wood worn too much). I am using an O ring to secure a tight fit and it works just fine, but thought I might find a missing part. Guess I can quit looking! A judicious application of plastic wood might restore the original fit, but I'll just leave things as they are. Thanks! I started out with a solid frame 25-35 50 years ago which I should have kept, ditto a take down 22HP, and a couple of solid frame 300's in between those and my current two. My 300 accounted for a nice blacktail on Montague Island (AK), but after losing a few deer to brown bears, only carried my BLR 358 for deer hunting up there. Glad I found this forum.

The O ring is an excellent fix and many use it to sort of float the forearm to remove pressure on the barrel. It may shoot better with it.

could might be --call it a ferrel or an escution but in most forearms there is a metal ,,washer ,ferrel,,escution inlettet into the wood for the forearm screw this what you are talking about??????

They make a Savage 99 in 358 you know..., bears and blacktails won't know the difference, but if you trip and fall in the mud up there, it'll be way easier to clean a 99 in the field than a BLR.

I've lived in Montana the last 8 years, so even though there are the occasional griz in these parts, they're much smaller on the average and I'm comfortable with my 300 Sav with these. I have 2 BLR's in 358, so hard to justify (like that has ever been an effective deterrent!) another. Used to have several Winchester Model 88's in 284 and 308, but never liked them as much as my 99's and BLR's.
