I've been looking for a savage 99 in .270 savage for some years now..I saw one when I was in D.C. but it wasn't for sale..It was only availabe as a factory option therefore very rare I have several 99's all savages calibers ..However my collection is incomplete, I need a .270 savage..I think it's a .300 savage necked down to .270

You're probably headed down a real slippery slope. I wish you a lot of luck. JOHN

The 270 Savage cartridge is a pure wildcat, never a cataloged factory option.

Like I said I've only ever seen one...It was as I believe a custom factory rifle.. probably availabe for a couple years only. back then factories made whatever the customer wanted to pay for..savage did make several rifles that werent cataloged. unlike winchester who is well know to list rifles they don't or wont produce..

Of course it could have been a well done custom job...in a wildcat round..after all my .250 AI is considered a wildcat..

270 Savage was a wildcat from around the 50's, some people were modifying Model 99's for it. I just read an article on this about 4 weeks ago, should have saved it. It was a 300 Sav neced down to .270. Didn't shoot for beans so they didn't push it real hard. Les

I don't believe that Savage would have made a 99 in 270 Savage in-house and won't believe such a rifle exists without seeing both the rifle and a factory letter together in 1 place.

Savage did make limited non-cataloged runs of non-standard 99s, like 99Fs with 99EG forearms, back in the 1950s, but I doubt that they would have chambered anything for a wildcat cartridge for fear of the liability associated with such a move.

Of course, with Savage you can never be too sure, but a factory 99 in 270 Savage would be harder to find than a NIB 99K for $150.

I am with you on that Jeff. I wasn't referring to a 99 in 270 Savage, but I do remember reading about that cartridge somewhere. Les

Vague recollection that cartridge might have been originated by Bliss Titus the barrelmaker. Not sure of that though. Just a hunch. Agree with Jeff that no factory rifle possible for it.
