Engraved 1899's from the 1899/1900 years - 07/26/16
Had a conversation going at the Fest spurred by 2 of us having engraved rifles in the 11.5xx range and the presence of a Callahan letter stating that Enoch Tue was hired in 1901.
Neither of the early 1899's was received from the factory before March, 1901. One is very highly engraved, the other is a simple B engraving.
1) So if Tue wasn't engraving for Savage until 1901, was Savage not shipping engraved rifles in the 1899/1900 timeframe?
2) Anybody seen a letter for an engraved 1899 rifle from prior to March, 1901?
