As the subject notes, will it work OK?

Looking at getting an older 250 Savage Takedown, and I'm wondering if the 22-250 will chamber/work OK. From my review of the drawings, the neck will be loose of course -- but I'm thinking the shoulder and base of the 22-250 are "correct enough" to make it work for dry firing.

What say the forum?

Per the SAAMI drawings the rim and start of the shoulder (length and diameter) are almost identical for the two rounds. I see no reason why it would not work.
IIRC, wasn't the 22-250 a wildcatted 250-3000 to start its life?
I have used a 22-250 bore sighter in my 250sav & 300sav and it works well.
Yep, the 22-250 was developed by necking down the 250 Savage.
And a 243 in a 7mm-08. wink

I can see the 22-250 and 250 interchanging, but the 300 is a totally different animal.
Thanks for all the replies to this older post.

Confirmed by checking the key dimensions, a visual reference (see pix), and then finally the actual fit to the actual chamber -- it is true that a 22-250 AZoom Snapcap will work successfully in a 250 Savage, aka the .250-3000.

This will work out great, as I can't hold the trigger back on my Savage 99A like I can on my 1930's F model. Now I don't have to store the 99A cocked and locked...

Tight groups... And "snap away"!
