300 EG with the Weaver and Stith setup for 725 shipped. Considering the value of Stiths, is this fair?

The Weaver and Stith are worth $275.

Thank you fellas.

That same Stith mount with a Weaver KV just sold on this forum for $310.00 and some said that was cheap. KVs can be found for not too much money.

On second look the front ring may have been different. As far as I know, there are two types of front rings. One is like your picture and the other used tapered aluminum blocks and set screws. I don't know folks opinions on which is best. Maybe that could be discussed sometime.

Finding a good KV is the challenge. This particular model had a lot of lens problems for some reason and a lot of them show up cloudy. A good one is worth far more than ebay averages.

The difference in the Stith mount is due to the evolution of the Weaver scope dimensions. The first version of K4 and KV had smaller objective bells and Stith used that elaborate front tube on that one. The bell got bigger and they designed the simple version. The 60 series Weavers are even bigger and Stith never built a tube for them.

I have a couple KVs that I wouldn't have picked up if they appeared to have problems. I guess I need to look at them again.

Ive come across several KV's and what Lightfoot says has been my experience...most were cloudy.

I checked my two KVs tonight after work and they look clear. I had to do it in the house but I'll check again tomorrow in the daylight. I wouldn't have snagged them if I saw issues. On a related note I once said that the lenses of most all the old B&L scopes (the series requiring adjustable bases) appeared yellow to me. A few others thought that was strange. Go figure?

Checked this morning and the optics look clear to me.

Considering how fast your 99 turned over I'd have to say that the answer to your question is YES. Any thoughts you care to share on the experience?

The big thing that comes to mind is I sure am tired of the anxiety that comes with buying rifles and having them shipped.
