Anybody know what exactly what Savage used to "permanently" (as their advertising says) seal the metal on the receiver of the PE/CE?

Any other factory ever try anything like it? It's an alternative to bluing and stainless.

I don't know what it is, but my CE and 2 PE's have a satin finish on the receivers and the DE has a high gloss finish. Probably different stuff. David

Savage advertising claimed it was a clear coating over in-the-white metal. None of mine appear to have been compromised. Although I've wondered about the high gloss coating on the DE. David

OK, I thought I'd read that too, so I'm not completely crazy. Just partly crazy.
