Killed an old speed goat doe this morning with my 1930 vintage 99E 250-3000 with Redfield TV screen 3 X 9 scope, Lightfoot mount, using Nosler 85 gr. ballistic tip bullets with 34 gr. RL19 and WLR primer at 197 yds... William Faulker would be proud of that run-on sentence.
Critter and rifle that did the dirty deed. I aimed behind the shoulder but hit the shoulder and severed the aorta and esophagus.
I'll have to post pics tomorrow. Photobucket has been uncooperative for the last hour or two.
David
A nice 99E 250-3000 is on my bucket list. I might as well hunt unicorns. I've seen your 99E and look forward to the photos of your hunt.
Congrats sir. Looking forward to pics.
I want to take one of my 250-3000's speedgoat hunting, but those tags are hard to come by in North Dakota. My last tag was in 2006, then a few years after that they closed the season due to a couple of harsh winters. The last few years they have started issuing tags again, so with my lottery points, I'm thinking it might happen in the next year or two. I've got a nice 99F on the way from diamondjim, so maybe that will be the one that does it!!! Congrats David, and I too am looking forward to the pics.

Randy
Congrats, David!
Congrats! You answered a few questions for me about my "new" 99F in 25-3,000, too. First, 85 grain Ballistic Tips will stabilize in my 1 in 14" twist; secone, an 85 grain Ballistic Tip will kill a deer right proper! Good stuff to know. I haven't shot the 1955 vintage rifle I bought a few weeks ago at a gun show, but I'm itchin' to do so. Too busy getting other deer rifles and friends' deer rifles ready for NY State. I loaded some 100 grain Remington PSPCL bullets I have salted away. Was that 34 grains of RL 19 or 34 grains of RL 15?
Will try those pics again.

I had intended to start on a TD grand slam but was running low on reloads and time to load more so didn't get the 1899 250-3000 zeroed in. I really like this 99E anyway. Will use the 1899 250-3000 next year if I get an antelope tag. It's getting harder to get them. I only got a doe tag this year. We saw some nice bucks, oh well.
David
I wrote RL19 on the ammo box and RL15 in the data book. I'm thinking I used RL15. I tried 36 g RL 15 and got signs of high pressure so I'm thinking I backed off to 34 g and that's what I was shooting yesterday. Getting old and forgetful is tough. David
David,
Nice goat, nice rifle. Good for you!

Best-
Steve

Thanks for clarifying that. I was wondering! I feed Re19 to the .284.
Congrats.

What is the "accessory" on the lever shown in the first pic?

Thanks
Wayne
David,
Looks like you had a very nice hunt. Congrats on the speed goat.

P.S. - Like the red plaid jacket.
Congrats
That accessory on the lever is the leather tag that identifies the rifle by its number when I display it with my collection at collector gun shows. It is the example of a 99E in the display. David

How cool. Nice goat David!

Love it! Those Es are my favorite...
Great rifle & Goat! Congrads!
Nice....Really, really nice David. Good shooting!

thanks for sharing,
dave
I need one of those and one in 22HP as well grin

norm
Well, I have to admit I have both but am not interested in parting with them. The 22 is rough as a cob and shoots all over the target at 25 yds. Need to try the o-ring on the forearm screw and change the scope. Too busy with elk rifles and trying to get ready for Winter right now to mess with it. David
just need something to keep company with my 303 and 30-30 grin
These are the only two 99E's I have. I mentioned above the 250-3K is in my display when I show my collection. David
