Here are pics of a 1899 with a saddle ring. The serial is 72224. I can purchase this rifle for $450. It is being held for my decision. I am sure that the pictures will give you a better idea on the condition. It seems that there were some repairs on the wood, maybe. Rifle cycles well. What do you think??

Don't know what that thing is thru the buttstock. What is that?

Aside from that it looks pretty good for a shooter. I believe the buttstock has been sanded. Metal is proud to the wood at the tang.

For 450 I don't think you can go to far wrong with this. I'd rather have this than a 94 carbine. Wanna trade when you get it?

If you don't want it I do!!!! We dont't know what the caliber is at this point ????

I am not sure what they are either and I was holding it less than 3 hours ago. I have to decide if I am going to get it. I have until Tuesday. It was taken off the shelf for me and put on hold. I bought another rifle from him and he called me when he got these in.

If that "indication" in the wrist wasn't remarkable when you handled it, it is probably not much. Its got more goin' for it than agin it. Heck, it still has a ring in the staple. When you go back you should check the forearm, butt and butt plate to see if the numbers match the receiver serial number.

If the bore is good buy it.

I added one more pic of the lever. It is the last one. i will find out about the numbers tomorrow.

Jeff, I feel your pain. I'd pick it up just cuz it's a good caliber in a good model and I like shooters. AND I like pre-90,000's... and $450 would be in my range for a shooter also. Be in my price range even if the number's don't match..

I'd say you shouldn't have any trouble getting your money out of it in a few years either.

You'll kick yourself if'n you don't.

I appreciate the input. However, I am thinking about getting both 1899's. A year ago I got my first 99 as a gift. So my knowledge is very limited. Last week I went to a gun show in Fredericksburg. A gentlemen there was selling about 6 takedowns for $875-950. Now I am seeing two 1899's (one takedown) that I can get for $450 each. Is the rifle worth $450 and the ones at the guns show way overpriced? Or is the ones I can buy way undervalued? I have never sold a rifle in my life and despite me saying I might sell these, I probably wont unless I cannot pass the deal. What is the value of this rifle and the other 1899 I have posted under "1899 assitance needed (with pics)" At least for insurance purposes. The gentlemen has them in his safe until I make my decision on Tuesday. If I decide to pass, I will provide info to them. Private seller. Thank you and all the best...

Hard to compare the two pictured against the six not seen. Value depends on model, condition, caliber and how bad the buyer wants it. The selling price of 1895/1899/99's has been rising at a steady pace over the last several years. Will it continue...who knows? If the two guns were on a gun show table they would probably be gone by the end of the day (JMO). Since you don't plan on turning them soon, you have to decide what your interest is and what you can afford. I don't think anyone has told you to not buy them. It's up to you.

30-30 is a very marketable caliber and if you look at the
auction sites, it would be easy to get your money back

How rare is this saddle ring model for the 1899? Thank you for the help ahead of time.

Not rare but getting harder to find, all the time.

Here is the scoop of the black marks on the stock you see above. The stock was broke and there seems to be a pin through it. I shot the rifle and there is no problem with the cycle. Is $450 still a good price????? I am starting to think no and would like to hear other opinions.
