I just discovered this sight and love it. I will be back.....often.

I am a long-time lover of the Savage 99. I grew up with 99's as my father shot one from my birth and also was in love with the action.

He first took up the 99 in the 1950's after an accidental shooting made it impossible for him to use a pump action. He didn't like bolt guns and the auto actions of the time he felt were unreliable.

Came down to a chioce between the Winchester 88 and the Savage 99........Savage was a bit cheaper so it won out. I am so glad too.

Over the years I have bought, sold and traded so many 99's I can't keep track of them all. I have owned at least one 99 in every caliber ever chambered (according to the Murrey book) except the .22 High-Power (that will be included some day too).

At the peak of my madness I owned 19 of them at once......I have trimmed this down to just 8 today......but they keep breeding I guess. Every time I look there are more than before in the safe.

I am primarilly a shooter, not a collector, but I am interested in the finer points of the 99. This group seems to be a storehouse of knowlege about the 99, so I will from time to time be picking our brains.

Proud to be here and glad to see so many 99 "nuts" in one place.

Welcome home. This is a great group. I'm sort of like you. My fondness of 99's also was planted by my father. He never owned one. Like your Dad, mine was also injured. Not by a shooting, thank God, but he almost lost his left arm in a paper mill accident. He went from a model 12 to a Browning light 12. But at any rate, I was a youngster hunting deer with him when we happened on an older gent on stand in the woods and he had a 99 in .300. My Dad remarked what a great gun it was and if he could work a lever, he'd own one. Since THAT day I always wanted one. My, now deceased father-in-law, heard me story and for the first Christmas my wife and I were together he bought me one. I still have it to this day, along with 11 others and a few other trinkets that say Savage. But on this sight, you are right. There is a boatload of info. Often times a newby shows up here trying to ID his rifle, and we direct him over to savagela.org to look around. Steve, Got the ammo yesterday and was very pleased with the service and quality of product. Of course, my wife asked if I didn't already have a dog bone box and would she become rich from the savage items some day! Oh yes, welcome to the forum Tex Rick.

OK.....since I'm new and innocent......I'll offer my very best 99.

It's an E model that's been modified with a cutting torch and welder to take Remington 742 magazines, has a camo stock and is re-chambered for the 7.62x39mm.

Can't find this model inthe Murray book o I guess it's kind of rare........would $1500 seem a fair prce to ask?

Oh........I'm in Tyler County (near Woodville) in the big city of Chester (population 210.....counting dogs, cats and chickens. We're pretty sure they overestimated the chickens though)

Great to live in the country where my "shooting range" is on my back porch.

My 99's must be breeding.......I didn't buy any new ones (just ask my better half....she'll tell you I'm not allowed).....but just last month a .358 Featherweight and a .300 "R" in mint condition just "showed up" without warning.

I do so like minty stuff...Welcome T-rick.
If you can get to my house in NY for this Saturday...we're having a gathering of Savage 99 Nuts.

So.. you turned a 99E (late model hopefully) into a 99C to accept a different brand of magazine, and then you camo'd the stock. Of that, I can almost forgive putting camo on a 99E stock..

Hey Calhoun......I didn't do the modifications just found it that way.

Thought it was kind of ...........unique. (like a road-killed possum, no two are exactly the same).

Being new here, thought I'd give someone the opportunity to pick up a rare model of the 99........offered in the same spirit as the one's who suggested I should sell my best at wholesale prices.

By the way.......if you're interested in the 99, I also have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.......cheap!!

Might be just a tad out of my budget range for a 99E.... but I would love to see a pic of it sometime. This one just might finish off Jed, so don't post nothing until after he finishes hosting the Savage Fest this weekend.

I've been working like a slave, and when I'm not working I am building a deck on the back of my house. I got the ok from the Warden(wife) to go to the fest, but I am now behind on things around the house cause I have been working so much.
