Picked this up off the classifieds from jwill350. Gene's small boner in westy micarta. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It fits in nicely between my Doziers.....

I brand most all my leather goods. Saddles, tack, shaps, scabbards, boots, choppers and such.

You got it. My pleasure.
Posted By: aablades Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
You will not find the level of fit and finish on the Dozier knives like you will on Gene's. First rate !!
Posted By: antlers Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
I'm sure it'll serve you well, and you'll likely put it to good use. You seem to get lots of trigger time on animals, so your opportunities to use it on game are plentiful. The brand looks nice on your leather too.

love that westy micarta

Has anyone ever jigged Westinghouse micarta?

This is true. Gene's fit/finish are about as flawless as "handmade" gets IMO. Especially at that price range.

Very nice knife.........
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
I get that, about finish and all, but the way they cut and how long they go between touch ups trumps 'pretty'.....And 'most' have to 'go some' to beat, or even hang, with doziers stuff. So far, I've only seen 1 that beat Bob's stuff(in the 'use' department') ......

I like that knife! Looking forward to reading your field tests and hearing how the S30V steel and tempering stacks up to the Doziers.

I haven't seen WM jigged but believe it would really take away from that layer of oxidation that gives it that rich color.
Posted By: mtnman1 Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
Yeah, I can't imagine jigging Westinghouse. Would almost be sacrilegious. [grins]
Posted By: Gies340 Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
Thanks guys, I kind of thought that since I haven't run across it but just doing a little research on jigging.

Agreed. I don't think Gene's stuff will disappoint.

So do tell, what was "the one"?
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
My old outfitter had a Morseth from the late 50's. I've never seen anything that could keep up.....
Posted By: MontanaCreekHunter Re: first Ingram - 10/21/13
Then you haven't had the right maker's knives in your hands.
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 10/22/13
yeah, maybe....I've led a sheltered life.
Posted By: ironbender Re: first Ingram - 10/24/13
Love the pic w/ the sky background.

Intrigued by the brand. How are you doing that? Did you make a brand or a running iron?
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 10/24/13
just bent a piece of wire into shape for the little one. this wire was smaller and stiffer than baler wire. It was one of those flagging markers. My bigger one(hatchet)is stainless welding rod. the rod holds up to lots of 'brandings' without going soft.....
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 10/24/13
rather than edit, I'll toss pics here. The wire-iron is just a mini-me copy of my registered Colorado livestock brand. The ol' reverse'D', connected'W', connected reverse '7'.....or backwards DW bar connected.

gonna be aging 2 weeks....
Posted By: 260Remguy Re: first Ingram - 11/14/13
Kinda fond on Harvey Kings blades, particularly the Classic Hunter, Small Game, and #8 styles.

But the throw-aways from Cold Steel, Canadian Belt and Pendleton, work OK for a deer or two between sharpening.

canon sd850 mostly, might be a couple with sx260
Posted By: Gies340 Re: first Ingram - 02/18/14
This is a great looking knife. Love the Westinghouse, thanks for sharing.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: first Ingram - 02/19/14
So......does it hang with the Doziers?
Posted By: wageslave Re: first Ingram - 02/19/14
Don does not even heat up those branding irons or wires.
He just touches schit and stares with his steely lasers.
I love it.

P.S. If you ever sell any of that branded stuff, let me know.
The Skatchet misses them.
Posted By: huntsman22 Re: first Ingram - 02/19/14
yup. The Doziers have found new homes. Not because I didn't like them(au contraire), but because I've decided I like other stuff, too. And am going to try out a couple other maker's stuff.
Posted By: Ole_270 Re: first Ingram - 02/24/14
I was a bit disappointed in the edge holding ability of my Dozier Yukon Pro. Used it to cape out a whitetail head(too big I know)and had to touch it up a couple times. Figured it had hit bone a few too many times. Last year I helped my SIL skin and quarter an older angus bull that had hurt his back. Huge bull, went over 2k lbs on the hoof, made a lot of hamburger though. The knife didn't perform much better that time. Haven't used my Ingrams (S30V) for either task but from using them on normal game skinning and cutting I doubt they wouldn't perform better.
