I think at some point in every knife makers career he/she considers making the famous "Bowie" knife, some people specialize in them.
This 7" blade is hand forged from a billet of 52100 carbon steel. The guard is also 52100, it will have Sambar Stag scales with a full tang and perhaps a butt cap. You can clearly see the hamon lines from the differential quenches. It should be finished in the next few days.

Thanks for looking, feedback encouraged.......

Very nice.

Although I'm not a Bowie guy, I can appreciate the time taken to put all the pieces together and make it look nice.

Thanks Dave!

I should have the scales on and a sheath made this weekend.

I'm not really a Bowie or big knife guy either, but I just had to give it go.
Looks very nice

Thank you Rick, Troutfly, Jud! Feedback is always welcome and appreciated...

Here's the latest on this no frills Bowie project. No spacers, no tapered tang, no take down, no butt cap.....just a good ol functional period style blade and handle.

Peen the pins, clean it up, build a sheath......done.

Thank you TNrifleman!

Here she is.........all dressed up and no where to go. It was a fun build, and I learned a lot. I really like the knife. It's just what I envisioned from the start.

The knife ended up at 11.25" overall with a 6 3/8" blade. It has a full distal taper, the spine is slightly relieved or rounded, convex ground, with a full tang handle and presentation grade Sambar Stag scales. The slight recurve was intentional, and I just love the look. The guard I left with an oil quench finish which resembles case hardening. It balances just behind the guard on the index finger. The sheath will be finished tomorrow. Notice on the right side of the blade, the overlapping or crossing quench lines..........to freakin' cool!

Thanks for all of the feedback, guys. I appreciate your time.

That is a dandy.
Looks like it belongs at a poker game in a western saloon stuck thru a deck of cards.

Thank you Tim! That's the look I was going for when I made it.....thanks for seeing that!

Mike, I'm sure few of the old west guys we're packing gold inlaid fancy filed Bowie knives. They're cool and all for the 21st century guy..........I like mine. I was born 100 years late.

Wow, 100 years late huh. Must have been rough on your Mother.

I made the two bowies below.
Thought the name "Aces and Eights" would be fitting.
