My name is coming up on Mr. Ingram's list late this summer. I have been looking at his website and I kinda like the looks of the dropped Hunter, I was wondering if anyone on here has this knife and could tell me if you like it. I know I can't go wrong with any of Mr. Ingram knives just trying to narrow it down.

Thanks for any help

Gorgeous stuff!

Two questions--can you tell me what pattern knife is in the foreground of the first pic (bottom one with stag scales)?
And can you tell me what wood is on the middle knife of the second pic?

How do you like the dropped hunter?
Posted By: ATROX Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/13/16
Stag knife is a model 6.5

Wood on middle knife is desert ironwood

Lotta belly on those. Love em'...!
I like the Dropped Hunter (7 1/2" x 3 3/8") as well. Me thinks that would be a good choice. I'd like to know though how the blade profile compares to the #30 Drop Point (8"x 3 1/2"). Sooner rather than later I plan to ask Gene.
The #30 is one that I am also very interested in. Actually pretty torn between it and his Bullnose.

I sent an email this afternoon hoping to get his input on something that will suit me well.Im sure he can steer me in the right direction.

I do like the Hunters

[Linked Image]

but I'd also consider the Slim or H325. H325 on top and Hunter on bottom.

[Linked Image]

and the H325 next to a Slim

Thanks toad, that's what I'm wanting to see is a comparison between some of the knives side by side, kinda hard for me to tell what they really look like by themselves. Thanks guys for the pics and your help.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/14/16
#1 B&T and slim are the ones I kept. When I thought I wanted a bigger meaning heavier duty type I got a #1 drop point pretty much Genes recommendation based on our conversation. Great knife I liked it but don't really have a need that I've found yet that calls for a more robust knife then a slim or similar.

Man, I really like these two.
Posted By: wilbilly Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/14/16
I've never seen the H325 is it just a variation of another knife?
Posted By: toad Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/14/16
the H325 was a regular catalog item a few years back. I'm pretty sure Gene will still make one if asked.

I asked Gene what the difference is between the two knives and his response was, "#30DP is a bit bigger all around with more belly in blade than the DH".
I just have this one Ingram. He made it special for me, with a bigger handle. Fixed blade Sodbuster. I believe Gene called this one 'The Big Boy Sodbuster'.
Sure is one heck of a worker.

Tag. Lots of great info here, guys! I put my name in for his production schedule which he says is now out into early 2017. I'm going to order a #3 B&T with a thicker handle if he'll make it as I have XXL hands, and a matching hunter to go along with it.

For a bigger hunter pattern, what would you all recommend? #30DP?

Thanks,

John

I like my Dropped Hunter, it is a substantial knife with enough belly for all around use but still a useful point.
For another all-around pattern and general purpose knife, I like his #7 with an extra 1/4" of blade. It comes out about the same dimensions as the Dropped Hunter but I like the grip shape a bit better. The Hunter model(not dropped) has a little less point if you want to go that direction. The Lite Hunter is another great one with a bit slimmer blade than the #7
If I was only allowed one Ingram design for all my uses it would likely be the #7+1/4 or the Lite Hunter.

I got a Slim for my daughter and it's a beautiful little knife but a bit too slender for me through the handle. My #4 Bird&Trout fills my need for a more delicate knife.

I think the H325 and the Chukar are almost identical through the blade but the H325 has a squared off butt while the Chukar is more rounded. I got the H325 for my wife who uses it in the kitchen almost daily and loves it.

Here's the only group I could find showing some different models. Sorry for the horrible lighting and color. Left to right:
Slim(Amboyna), #7(Ironwood), #7+1/4(Ironwood), Dropped Hunter(Black/Green Micarta), #4Bird&Trout(Spalted Maple)& #3 Semi(Black Micarta)

Here's a Chukar(Black Ash) and a Hunter(Buckeye).

Here's a Lite Hunter(Spalted Maple).

An H325 with an extra 1/4inch of blade (Corrugata)

All beautiful knives. Doesn't get much better.

Now that is quite a collection! And if you're not going to tell us the Models I'll have to ask...

ATROX,

What does Gene call the pattern of the knife that is on the far left, bottom row?

Thanks, RS

Gene calls it the H400, it's an H325 with a 4" blade.

Great boning knife, fits well in the hand.

I've got one on the way that is almost exactly like your modified RWL second from left on the bottom row. Brown micarta, finger indent... Gene said someone had just ordered one that was almost like it already.
Posted By: Dude270 Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/21/16
that is quite a collection Atrox.
Would you mind giving me the model names of the two gigged green g10 knives and the carbon fiber knife in the bottom row?
Is there a Lite Hunter in the mix?
Posted By: ATROX Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/21/16
The first green g10 knife is a number 5 drop point

The carbon fiber is a Nilla

The last green g10 is also a Nilla

This is starting from the left and heading right.
Posted By: ATROX Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/21/16
Sorry, no Lite Hunter in this mix
Posted By: Dude270 Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/21/16
Thanks,

I thought at least the green g10 in the right was a Nilla, the CF knife's blade looked a touch different. maybe just the lighting. I like that #5, I don't think I have seen that pattern before.

The Nilla is a great pattern for sure, I have one that Gene stretched the blade to 2.75" for me and it is without a doubt my favorite knife

Got an email for Gene last night it's looking like it's gonna be late September before he starts my knife.

Atrox

What are the dimensions on the nilla? I really like that pattern.
Posted By: ATROX Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 06/22/16
6 3/4" (OAL) x 2 3/4" (blade)

WOW! THanks very much for all the info and comparisons of the different models! That was exactly what I needed. And wow, what a hellofa collection you have there!

Thanks again,

John
...and WOW, ATROX! What a collection! If you had to pick one, which pattern would you say is your favorite? How about favorite handle material? (apologies if you mentioned it previously and I missed it).

Man I like em all, can't say that I have a favorite. If I'd a found a favorite I wouldn't of bought so many. Still searching.

Can't go wrong with G10 and Micarta, but I like wood also.

Anyone have a pic of a #30 drop point next to a #7? I want to compare blade width.

what model?
#30 drop point. It's a little big for my liking, not sure if it's a keeper yet. I'd like to try a Lite Hunter.
Posted By: Dude270 Re: Tell me about this Ingram - 07/18/16
those scales are beautiful.

Gene's lite hunter is a great pattern. It's easily my favorite model of Gene's in the 3 to 3.5" blade size
