A knife I made on a shearers grinder in the '80s to receive some TLC, the knife was cut from a large circular sawblade and the steel is L6, the handle scales are of redgum with brass pins, the sheath I made about a year after I made the knife.
A fellow in Victoria did the heat treatment in a Japanese forge (fancy name for lined pit on ground).

I carried the knife for a number of years whilst I was shearing, and it provided sterling service on pigs, killers (sheep), sundry camp chores, and fish...when my brother required a half decent blade for hunting I sent it to him.

This was the first knife I made, it seemed to work.

You probably cannot see it but the blade and tang are both tapered from the guard, and the knife has a bit of steel missing from twenty-eight years of use.

"..the knife has a bit of steel missing from twenty-eight years of use."

And that makes it cool, besides looking good.

Very cool. Can't wait to see it after rehab.
