So has anyone used a utility knife with hooked blade to open up an animal? I'm sure it's nothing new, but new idea to me. Seems like a simple, cheap fix to a messy problem. I have gut hook knives bit not crazy about them

Yup. For about 15 or 20 years now. Like you, my buddies and I just figured it for a no brainer.

YEP My Buck zipper has worked just fine for many years. I have lots of knives but only use that one for big Game.
Have a great day.

I've used a utility knife to skin a few critters, but not the gut hook.

I shoot a 6.5 creedmoor. I don’t have to field dress. It does it for me.
