I'm tired of looking for Sierra 65gr Game King or 77gr TMK.

I can get the old-school 70gr soft point - used to be popular with 22-250 shooters. I'm looking for some experience from those who used it from a .223.

Yes, I've killed one antelope and one doe wt with them from my old Ruger compact 223. Did just as good as anything I've killed wt with. Both ran but less than 15-20 yards tops with a standard boiler room hit. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Both were at moderate speeds and within 175 yards.

Thanks for the experience! I ordered a couple boxes because they were available and cheap. I think I can run them 2700fps from a 16" barrel pretty easily.

They are my deer and pig bullet in my 223 Montana. I have killed several deer and several pigs with this load and they have all performed flawlessly. I even killed one large boar at 280 yards and dropped him instantly with a head shot. All my shots on deer (rib/lung) have exited, leaving a nice round exit hole showing nice expansion. After going through my first couple of boxes I bought what I thought to be a lifetime supply. Farthest kill on a deer was 205 yards and the performance was the same as the ones I’ve killed at 50. Really makes you think about how effective the 223 is and how much extra power and bullet weight we are hurling at whitetails.

I've used it a bunch, and its my go to for hunting deer in the 223. And it has never failed me EVER.

Whether 223 or 22.250. My load in the 223 has always been 28 gr of H380..

Longest shot was 250 yds and bang flop on a good sized Blacktail....

I use the 62 grain Bear Claw or the 62 grain Barnes on pigs. I’m sure they would kill deer well too.

I use Kirkland toilet paper.

I've used them in both .223, and .22-250 with excellent results on Mule Deer (mostly deprivation doe tags) and Pronghorn Antelope. in both calibers they were accurate and performed well. I did have the options when hunting with them to take picky shots and wait for standing broadside or chest on shots

I'm mainly going to use these for my Grandson hunting whitetails. I've loaded 64gr Win Power Points in the past, which zaps deer just fine (big exit hole), but Winchester seems to have discontinued that bullet. I've loaded and shot the 77gr TMK, and while it is a good bullet, I'm tired of $.38/shot and never finding them in stock - ditto with the 65gr GameKing. I figure the old school Speer is fine since deer haven't changed much in the last 50 years.

I have used them in both the .223 and .22-250. I was personally not overly impressed. That said a good pard of mine doing some range management killed 23 deer and antelope with them out of his .223 and swears by them.

Since you're from SW Montucky, I'm curious about the "not overly impressed" statement.

It's hard to overly impress somebody from SW Montucky. The 70 grain Speer was the first .224 bullet I used on a deer. Worked OK. It turned out to be a pretty good Turkey bullet also. I would certainly use it before I used a heavy target bullet.

Seen em used from 222, 223 and 22-250.

They kill deer without much drama.

I only have a small sample but they both had to be shot more than once...and the first shot was a good'un.

What’s the body size of the deer you shot with this bullet, Ingwe? The deer I have killed with mine have all been small bodied Texas does.

I have used the speer 70 gr. in my 22-250 on a deer several time and I worked great. Had the same success with my .223 and Nosler 60 gr. loads.

I'm going with the 70gr Speer sp, 24gr of TAC, CCI450, COL=2.14", for 2700fps from a 16" barrel. Nice shooting load. Gave a vasectomy to a bull mouse at 100yds. Couldn't increase the COL past 2.16" without hitting the lands, so I left it at the Speer published COL of 2.14".

I tried Federal 205 primers with TAC and the 70gr Speer but the ES was 150fps. Even though Ramshot says you don't need a magnum primer, you really do. I'll save the 205s for a stick powder.
