This is our first full year of legal rifle season here... I'll be missing the old slug gun about as much as a toothache.

My primary in the stand will be the CVA Scout in 300 Blackout. The foul weather backup and just in the off chance I ground hunt this year will the the BB94 in 375 Win. For ML season it's just a CVA Wolf, which is only ML I own now.
I've got a running list in my phone of all the rifles to sight-in after scope swaps, as well as those I need to simply check zero on. There's likely a dozen or more rifles I'll take after whitetails this season, as our season is about three months long. I picked up a new 350 Legend for our Primitive Weapons season, so I'm going to try that one out a fair bit. Also have a new-to-me Ruger 77/44 that I want to get bloody, as well as a .257wby I've yet to fire in anger.
I envy you guys with that much time. Rifle is 7 days here, and ML is 3.
Just for starters

I am keeping it simple this year.

Definitely a rifle.
Most likely 30-30 for walking. 30-06 for sitting.
Season is over now. Grandson zapped this whitetail (youth hunt,) with a 64gr winchester power point (discontinued) from an 18" Ruger MPR. MV = 2800fps.
Next year he'll use Speer 70gr SP running a little slower.

With both shoulders having been replaced this year, the right between Christmas and NY and the left the last of June, I really don't know yet. It will be either the 6.5 Grendel, .243 Forester, or 7x57 Win FW. Will know in the next couple weeks when I try to shoot them. I do have loads worked up for them from before.
Have a great day.

I guess I should add crossbow and flintlock
New to me Kimber Hunter in .257 Robert's and Kimber Montana. 300WSM. Redhawks in .357, .41, .44, and .45LC. Flintlock for early and late MZ

I got all kinds of crazy ideas I dreamed up all summer but I’m going to try a keep things simple.

Remington 700 Muzzleloader.
Weatherby Vanguard 300 Wby or 30-06
North woods, my 348 and 358 Wins. Farm probably 300 Savage, 270 or '06.
The sporterized 7x57 Mauser that my Grandpa gave me when I was a teenager.
I’ve got a savage 99f 308 sitting idle 🤔
Interesting,,,guess I would have expected more 6.5CMs.
This year's first buck was killed with a S&W Performance Center 629 and 240 grain XTP over 23.5 grains of H-110.

Second one this year fell to Adcor Defense B.E.A.R. shooting 65 grain SGK over 27 grains of Varget.

Yesterday and tomorrow I carried/will use Sako 85 in 6.5X55 shooting 130 grain SGK HPBT over H4831.

Still in the lineup for this year is my new-to-me No. 1A in 7X57 which will be shooting 140 grain NBT over StaBall 6.5.

The Marlin Guide Gun .45-70 will go to New York with me next month to hunt in the woods and the Sako will probably go as well.

If I make the trip to Missouri this year the Encore will go with the .25-06AI barrel is I get a load established before going. Probably one other rifle as well for out there, but not sure which one yet.

There are a few other rifles and revolvers that might get the nod on a given day, but no definite plans beyond those stated.
Probably start with one that’s not been bloodied yet. My 6CM FC is a good example. My son whacked one with it, but all I’ve shot with it is a pair of foxes.

Broke in two last season; my 6.5 Mini and M70 EW .308.

Have a new inline coming next week as well. I was all over those, until I saw how many bullets and sabots I had……
Same as always. Howa Mini in 375 SOCOM.

Tony
Same CZ 527 in 6mm ARC been using the last 2 years. Was a 6.5 Grendel for the previous 6 years. Quality Monolithic copper projectiles have proven to do as well as or better than good cup & core offerings.
6.5 grendel, 6.5 creedmoor, 6mm arc, 338 edge, 6.5 gibbs. whichever I pick up that day
The faux Ti 257 Roberts gets the nod for first into the woods. That will be followed by my semi-custom FN lightweight 30-06 for snotty weather and rough country. The Browning Medallion 25-06 will come out for non-vertical terrain. It’s just too pretty….

Damn, made the year I was born!
Down here out behind the pole barn in a popup blind I'll use the Encore with a .460 S&W magnum barrel. I have a couple of 275 gr Barnes monolithic loads from last year but may end up using Hornady 300 gr magnum bullets because I found a box and will have plenty to practice with. I won't hunt with a rifle unless I have the opportunity to run it through several practice sessions before heading afield.

If I get a chance to hunt the UP probably Encore with 6.5 Creedmoor barrel or Ruger No. 1 7 x 57.
Starting out with my 30-06 tomorrow, going to use it on fields and lanes. Taking my Marlin 41 MAG carbine for the swamp stands. Once either gun kills a deer I will switch it out with another.

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
I'm blessed with a 4+ month season and a deep roster.

A few rookies will be first up in the rotation to evaluate their performance:
Howa mini 6 ARC
Howa mini 6.5 Gren will see the field as a fan favorite of the younger group
7-08 Defiance seems to be a preseason contender for rookie of the year
Tikka .308

Several reliable players from previous years will be called on in big games:
Fieldcraft 6.5 CM
M7 .308
Havak 6.5 CM
NULA 50 muzzleloader

Never know what might come off the bench to change the pace of the game.
I used my Tikka T3 Varmint in .223.

P
I rotate rifles daily...or every day that I hunt. Opening day usually 7.65 Peruvian Mauser sporter. After that, a rotation of 8x57 BRNO, 7x57 BRNO, Rem. Model 30 Express '06, 6.5 Swede, 70 FWT '06, Post 70 .308, 1903 MS 6.5x54, 1904 Steyr Mannlicher 8x57. And a profusion of iron sighted classics, most of which have never made meat, unfortunately. No sense in having them if you don't use and enjoy them. One drawback, every morning after leaving the Jeep, I have to perform several drills of re-learning the safety operation.
Model 70 Classic Sporter 30-06
Model 70 European FWT. 6.5x55
Model 70 XTR 7mm Mauser
Ruger #1 45-70
Marlin 30-30 AI
Maybe some more....
Got 6 weeks to mash em' with lots of time off.

Would love to kill a big buck but antlers make poor stew...
Same Marlin .30.30 I've been using for the last 10 years or so.
So far this year I've taken two whitetails during antlerless season with a rifle, both while field hunting. One was taken with a custom Big Horn TL3 with TT Diamond, a Proof barrel, Manners stock, S&B glass, suppressed with a GemTech Sandstorm Ti. This rifle is chambered in 6.5 PRC shooting 143 gr. ELD-X over H4831SC. Shot was 350 yards. Second was taken with a Browning Hell's Canyon SR in 6.5 PRC with a Leupold VX-3i shooting a 130 gr Sierra Tipped GameKing over H1000.

When the general season comes around, I'll be hunting woods with a Browning X-Bolt SR 18" .308 Winchester with a VX-3i, GemTech suppressor, and a 150 gr Partition over Varget. Backing it up will be my T3X .308 Winchester I've posted about in the past along with the above Browning PRC.
killed a youngster 9-point yesterday with my crossbow at 20 yards.
single shot NEF .45-70 with peeps, scoutified .308 remington 700 with burris 2.75x20, 8x57 mauser wearing peeps are waiting in line ...
Only LRX I've recovered, 144.3gr from 466 yards, quartering away.

Starting with a Ruger Hawkeye 358. I may use my Sako 25-06 or my Remington 742 in 308. Not sure how much hunting I’m going to get to do.
I'm still undecided, but this one is a contender.

I was going to resurrect the Whelenizer this year. It's a Rem 7600 in 35 Whelen, but I was not getting the velocities or the accuracy I expected and put it aside for next year.

My go-to Opening Day rifle is a Savage 99 in 308 WIN.

I'm taking a TC Compass in 7mm-08 with a 139 grain Hornady load that's breaking 2900 fps. That should be fun.

I've got the 25-06 Mauser back with a 100 grain Speer.

My safety blanket is my KAR 98 sporter in 8X57 with a 175 grain Hornady.

This coming weekend is early Muzzleloader. I'm taking the Brown Bess.
On Sunday, I was reconnoitering my WMA and discovered they’d nuked the brushy meadows and planted food plots, so the Fieldcraft 6 might actually get a chance to do what it’s built for; well 200 yards or so anyway.

Had it out yesterday to check the zero and it put 95gr LRXs, 95gr BTs, and factory 103gr ELDXs all in almost exactly the same spot. Pretty impressive. Saturday is the first firearms opportunity, Old Men and Children days for does, bear, and turkeys. Neighbor had a bruiser of a bear on his game cam, regrettably in the wrong direction for where I hunt, but still interesting.
Season is open here already. I’m using the same rifle I’ve hunted deer with for 30 years. My savage 99 in 300 savage.

Ouch! In AR & MS, I can hunt with either a Winchester 1885 qualifying as a "primitive" weapon or using a modern gun for a total of 87 days from the first week of November to then end of January. Both states combined would allow around a dozen deer harvested if I had more freezer space.

Hey geedubya, beautiful rifles as always. That 6.5x55 you posted a picture of has that same buttstock that was on the rifle tex_n_cal sold back in June. If it's not the same rifle, it looks like it came from the same batch:

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]windows screen capture

I plan to hunt with a Browning 1885 in .44 Magnum, an 1885 in .405 Winchester, a Ruger #1 RSI in .275 Rigby & a Sako 85 Hunter in 30-06.
The other day I went grouse hunting with a BRNO o/U 12 gauge 22 Savage HiPower, you know, in case I stumbled across a buck while I was out. *Note to self- Don't go grouse hunting during deer season. Your eyes aren't what they used to be with iron sights.

*sigh*

I usually hunt with a Savage 99 in 284 for deer and bear, but am trying to mix it up by taking others out. Problem is, you only get a chance at a good blacktail buck once in a great while and I don't want to miss my chance by carrying something like a 38-55 carbine or a 32-40 rifle. If ranges were 40 yards sure, but you gotta shoot long sometimes. It's a real conundrum.
If I hunt my new stand on a pine tree island I’ll be using my 348 O&U double rifle. It’s very thick and shots would be 30 yards at the most. A good blood trail out both sides is very desirable due to nearby beaver ponds, just in case he decides to expire in a different location.
Remington 700 Classic in 7x57 and then either a Browning BAR in 270 Win or a Remington 7600 on 3006
Everytime I carry my FC 6CM, I feel as though I'm carrying a 22 cal rimfire until that 105 berger does damage like a Thor.
I plan to carry it along side my Rem 280 mountain rifle.
308 savage ultralight 3x15 tract toric scope in texas. Ruger American 243 in NY. Savage 50 cal. Muzzle loader in NY.
7x57 for the opener. If I get a second one it will be with a 9.3x62, and if a third one comes along the 35 Rem!
I have 2 locations I'll be hunting this year. One will only allow a very close shot and I will be shooting a Remington 600 in 35 Remington. The other might offer a shot that is a little longer and I'll probably be shooting a Mexican Mauser custom in 7mm or a Husqvarna in 243 Winchester.
Christensen fft Ridgelines in 6 Cm and 6.5.
I've got a Win 70 Classic Stainless that'll be in the rotation, as well as a BLR Lightweight in .358 Win, a Tikka 595 in 7mm-O8, a Browning BAR II in .25-06, a waffle-top Marlin 336SC in .30-30, and a waffle-top Marlin 336A in .35 Rem., and maybe some others.

I just did some ammo inventory for my 284 Winchester. I have a good amount of factory ammo then some newer reloads with 120 grain bullets. I’ll check the zero with factory ammo, maybe just use that. I’ll be in the U.P. of MI.

I have 2 rifles in 284. I plan to use the 20” barreled Browning Micro-Medallion. Historically any shot even to 75 yards is unlikely. I gave the gun the once over, then ensured the Leupold lenses were clean.
Killed a Buck the last morning with my 700 ML. On to 30-06 or 300 Vanguard
Just stepped back into the house with a single shot in 7X57 Mauser. All the whitetails today waved to me!
Gonna try to stick with iron sighted rifles this yr if possible depending where I'm hunting.

Rem 7600 30-06 with skinner express peep.

M71 348 with original buckhorn sights. Probably just carry this one bear hunting, already killed a couple deer with it.

M141 in 35 Remington with a Lyman tang peep sight.

M98 sporterized 8x57 with a redfield receiver peep.

Scoped rifles if I end up carrying any this yr will likely be a 03 Springfield 35 Whelen, and a Sauer 101 30-06.

Got enough tags to carry them all but we will see how the deer cooperate. Some yrs it goes pretty easy, other yrs not so much.
I had a 99 rebarreled to 338 I’m going to use as soon as I get a scope on. I’m eager to try it.

Ended up with our son being born a few days before opener. The in laws showed up and I suddenly had a couple hours free and ran out to one of my boxes. It was a hard call as I’ve got a few rifles that still need to be hunted. But when it came right down to what I trust…. I grabbed my 270.
