After a year of hemmin' & hawin' I finally pulled the trigger so to speak on picking up a CZ 527M carbine in 7.62x39. I balked on 1 last year at the local gun gun shop and kicked myself since! It came back! Actually it never left. Somebody put it on layaway and backed out. the rifle is "as new". I thinned my heard and traded some pieces that had grown silent.

Now I ask...Anyone got any good info./experience with this particular rifle? I am going to use it for New Hampshire Whitetail when I am not using one of my Savage 99's.

Advice on ammo and a scope would be a start! Thanks!
....I put a Leupold 4X rimfire scope on mine. I had the scope pallalax reset to 100 yards. It is a very compact scope, weighs 7.5 oz. and covers any thing in the range of the 7.62X39 well. I've found that S&B 123 gr. softpoint ammo (first class brass cased stuff!)prints 3/4" groups with my little carbine, and dispatches whitetails with aplomb based on the limited hunting I've done with it. Killed a beautiful 17" spread buck with one shot at 120 yards. The shot quartered through the animal from just behind the shoulder to exit through the liver on the off side. The deer fell where shot.

....Good luck with your carbine. They are a dream to carry! The S&B ammo cost me 6.99 a box of twenty. I bought ten boxes.Try it!
laugh olhippie...yes, we have spoke before when I was asking advice on this rifle last year! I will try some of the S&B! The hollow point worked well on the critters?
John - what a small world! I manage the gunshop where you picked up the CZ. Another guy we see all the time in the shop is BobinNH.
As to your deer hunting question, if you hunt the early muzzleloader season you will not find it as crowded in the southern part of the state. Good hunting - Denver

It's a mean little machine...Mine is out west right now being used by a 10 year girl to learn to shoot. I loaded up a bag full of sub-sonic rounds for her to pull the trigger on...Great gun!!

I think you are going to be very pleased with your little Carbine! I've had one since '04 and think very highly of it. Mounted a Japaneese 4x Weaver, charged it up with some Lapua ammo, and first 5 groups averaged 1.13". Handloads with Hornady 123 gr. (old ones were .311") ran 2257 fps and produced 1.20" groups. I even tried the cheap Wolf HP with 3 groups averaging 1.13" and even some ChiCom surplus averaged 2.043".
I purchased the carbine with intentions of using it for cast bullets so I had a mould made especially for it that makes 165 grain bullets. I have 2 powders that shoots these from 1878 fps to 1931 fps with an average accuracy of 1.5" for 10 groups. I intend to use mine for deer hunting this year.
The CZ Carbine in 7.62x39 is a fun little rifle! I ran mine for a while with a Leupold FX-II 4x33mm. I switched over to a VX3 1.5-5x20mm.

I highly recommend calling Roy Bertalotto of RVB Precision (508-994-3644) and have him convert the exposed, rather ugly, drop down magazine to a more flush modern looking unit.

CZ-527 Rifle Magazine Conversion

I had him do my CZ 527 Carbine 7.62x39, and it looks mucho better.

Wow! Very nice! I sent you a PM my friend!
I need one of these.......

FOsteology; how much was the conversion, what's the after conversion capacity, and is it still DBM (if so, what magazine)?
Got the site to work; still DBM, factory mags still work, cost is $75, and extra mags so converted cost an additional $30 over the cost of the magazine. Not bad.......
These are great rifles! My sons nabbed mine a couple of years ago for deer. These are light weight, solid built, decent triggers and great shooters with just about any ammo. Have not loaded any rounds for mine yet, the factory ammo does well.

Scoped with a Leupold 3x9 and my son's have Burris FF2 3x9's.

7.62x39 is a great mid distance 120gr or so light recoil cartridge. The S&B ammo is fine. Best factory groups I have are with Federal blue box.

I changed the firing pin spring to a heavier spring, the stock spring was not 100% on hard primers in Winchester white box loads. CZ has them, $10 or so.

Awesome take with you for the woods outing rifle! Now they even make a left hand version.......
I gotta get away from this place before I start spending my money again!!.
With the convesion that DBM offers, I didn't see capacity of new mag. I assume it goes to a 3 round mag? i also heard some posts stating the spring on some doesn't allow for a "good" primer strike on some ammo. I haven't found this out yet for myself, but I also read the the models designated 527M are newer models with some of the previous issues addressed, thus the "M" designation in the model number. I have the 527M so after I run some rounds through it, I will report back on my findings. I can't wait!
The converted magazine holds three down.
The only factory rounds that FTF were Winchester white box. CZ recommended the spring change. Taht rifle is 4 years old or so.

I have shot a few different brands of ammo and fire some Wolf and Tiger HP's every now and then.

They are a fun rifle.

smile

My CZ has a MFG. date of late 2007, ergo the 527M designation.
Hopefully all potential issues have been made.
You guys have me wanting to open my wallet again. Have been considering one of these for years. It's good to see deer can be killed without a 300 ultra mag!

FOsteology,

Is that a factory stock upgrade or a custom job? Thanks.

I have one on order too but it will get a Lothar Walther 20 inch barrel in 6.8 SPC II. And the bottom metal goes to Ray Betalotto too.

Has anybody tried the winchester 64grain PP in their 223 version?

I want to use this bullet, but Im not sure if their 1:12 twist will shoot it?

I have the same rifle also! I topped mine with a Leopold 1.5-5x20 VXII Matte finish. I have killed a few hogs and few deer too! I use Silver Bear 123 gr. SP only! I have never lost any animal I shot with it! The farthest shot was a hog in OK. 125 yards! She went 20 yards and collapsed! I do like the mag conversion, but don't mind the way it is! Enjoy your new rifle, mine has brought me many a day of fun, as I know yours will!

? why?
....You know I didn't like the factory magazine extending so far below the stock, but now after a few years use, I wouldn't want it changed. It provides an ideal carry point for my fingers to curl around and makes speeding down a trail easier with the rifle than were it a flush fit. I do want to send the stock off, or maybe do the job myself, in order to shave it down to a bit more slim cut, fitting the proportions of the little rifle a bit better to my eye. There's enough 'meat' in the factory stock to bring out a lovely little, lighter, stock with an American comb and a snable fore end to compliment it's European heritage. I'll pillar bed it, and seal the floated barrel chanel, and reciever bed with a thin epoxy coat to keep out moisture. This little gun shoots like a target gun, carrying it up a tree is a delight, and it points like your finger, QUICK and ACCURATE! I killed a running buck last week with a perfect lung shot, one I'd not have made with a number of my other rifles!
nephew runs the commie round in an AR. I HATE ballistic tip bullets but have been just totally impressed with them in 30 cal, 125 that he runs in that gun. They hold together like a bullet should. Just an FYI on reloading.

Me, when I end up with one, will be more like a right bullet, light ttsx.... but no flies on the 125 BT... killed a boar over 350 with his AR one morning, 75 ish yard shot right through both shields as he was on the move and couldn't get to the head fast enough... I was amazed that it exited... Boar didn't make 50 yards...
Aren't they great little guns! I bought the CZ 527 and the Ruger Compact Hawkeye in 7.62x39 for the recoil senative kids to shoot. We've managed to help several kids get their first deer with them. I really enjoyed shooting the guns myself, and prefer the CZ because the stock fits me a lot better than the Ruger Compact does. Good luck with that gun, you won't be sorry.
