Just picked up one of the loved/hated Ruger boat paddle stocks. Do Sims or Pachymer make a prefit recoil pad for it? I love the stock bit that brick of a pad needs to go.
It isn't exactly a 'precision' fit as it is slightly over-size, but not enough for me to worry about. Also, you will have to drill a hole for the top screw as the existing holes in the stock and pad don't line up (not even close).
That said, I have on on my .338 WM, below on the left, and like it a lot.
By the way, those are great stocks if you value function.
Nearly indestructible, relatively light weight, impervious to the weather, and who cares if you ding them up?
As to accuracy, the .30-06 in my previous post (on the right) and my boat paddle .300WM went to the gun range for a final check out in 2010. I took a total of 5 shots at clay pigeons at 600 yards. Nailed a pigeon with each, taking 3 shots with one and 2 shots with the other. As far as I'm concerned they have no negative effect on accuracy.
I found a prefit pachmayr 01736 by doing a little google search. I think I will try that out. I've been looking for a boat paddle stocked ruger for a while and am very very excited about this rifle. I wanted a stainless synthetic stocked rifle for hard use. The MKII with boat paddle stock is pretty much the deffinition of that. I would have rathered a 30-06, but the 270 is the next best thing and I got a very good deal on it. I'm taking it to the range Wednesday with a box or two of ammo to give her a quick range session.
I missed one at a gun show a while back when I took too long to decide. Went back the next day and someone had just started the paperwork. Ended up buying the action on which I built the .338 WM above.

Yep, that's the right model number for the pre-fit Decelerator pad. I put one on my "boat-paddle" stock, and it was a perfect, flush fit. Only problem was, I needed slightly longer screws. I was lucky enough to find a pair in my toolbox that I cut to length.

Were the mounting holes correctly spaced?
The holes were correctly spaced, but the lower stock hole had to be deepened a little bit to snug the pad down flush against the stock, no big deal. After that, the fit all-around was as perfect as if it came from the factory.
