Deer season not extended due to free hunting days Jan. 4-5, 2013

The Jan. 4-5, 2013 free hunt days do not extend deer or any other season. Deer season in South Carolina ends on Jan. 1. Free hunting days are a chance for those unlicensed hunters to get into the field. All existing seasons, bag limits and methods of take still apply so check the 2012-2013 Rules and Regulations for more information.

Free hunting days allow all South Carolina residents to hunt without a state hunting license or other required permits, to include Wildlife Management Area (WMA) permit, or Migratory Waterfowl Permit (formerly State Duck Stamp).

Free hunting days are available only to SC residents and apply to all lands in which hunting is allowed, to include private lands and Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) throughout that state that are not otherwise closed to hunting.

WHEEEEE!
I cant wait...woods full of first time unlicensed hunters.
I wonder if people who have lost thier licence's due to game violations get to hunt too?
Theres also a youth day on the 5th ...just to add some more party into the mix.
How do they justify that? Is SC so over run with deer that they need all able-bodied people to kill em? That's friggin' rediculous!
Its a ruse...we are tricking the deer into thinking seasons over then WHAM!
back in the woods.

Wow...I'm not so sure how I feel about this...

"Don't buy your license like everyone else...just wait until it's a free hunt"
SCNDR issued a notice that deer are NOT included in this.Deer season ended January 1st.

Stan in SC
KY does something similar the last full weekend in December. KY does a free YOUTH Deer Hunt (and small game?) to encourage kids under the age of 16 with an opportunity to try hunting without incurring a license cost. Not sure about the SCDNR activity. But, I think the KY Youth Hunt weekend is a good idea to help preserve / rebuild our hunting heritage...
Its actually a trick. Scdnr puts out info thats partial and ambiguous. Then they will be at the prossesser waiting with baited breath. I bet they will write more citations in 2 days than all year. The news channels were reporting initially this was an extension of deer season.
I've never seen this with hunting. Several states have a free fishing weekend type deal that seems pretty effective at getting people out to fish and see what it is all about. Not sure about hunting however.

No their fish and game dept is overrun with retards.
just think... the youth day when parents take thier kids out into the woods to hunt deer, and they coincide this day with a day they let any yahoo who cant afford a licence to wander around the woods rabbit hunting.
maybe they think the rabbit hunters are going to move the deer around and give the kids an opportunity.
I called DNR yesterday and asked if my daughter needed a doe tag in her name to shoot a doe youth day since my remaining tags were in my name.
he couldnt answer me. said he didnt have any idea but that was a good question.
crazy
tn has free hunting day too but it is for squirrel only
