Did not draw a tag here in my home state of North Dakota. License numbers are way down - according the G&F site there were 94,000 applicants, of which 46,000 were unsuccessful - including me. Guess my luck got used up last year. No one else in the family drew a tag either. This will be the first time since I was in my teens that I haven't had a deer tag (forgot to apply once back then). I am 50 now.

I'm not bitter or anything, it's an awesome privilege to be outdoors in the fall, and I hope to do plenty of that. Just going to miss that anticipation.....

Good luck to you all,

Kaiser Norton
Sounds as bad as Colorado. Are deer numbers down?
Would be hard to know how to act without at least one big game tag to pursue.

Although at times when cervid hunting gets tough, ducks really make up for that generally...
got to be hard on a man to not be able to hunt deer in his own state.....sorry....

where i hunt in Ga, you can buy a license over the counter and kill 12 deer..

I believe we're in the company of a gentleman that truly gets it. smile

Hope the deer get a good winter this year and you're back at it next fall!
I didn't draw for SD either for the second year in a row. It's unfortunate you can't get a tag in your home state. Can you jump the border to MN?

I agree. And it's 6 here in NC.
Are they giving out any non-res. tags?
My sympathy too, Kaiser!!

How about out of State near you?

Small game ? Birds ? Ducks ?

Anything is better than nuttin !

Good Luck.
Licenses for non-residents are available over the counter in Minnesota.......
Sounds like the perfect "excuse" to hunt a new state!
That would suck! Here in TN we buy ours over the counter and can kill 3bucks, and pretty much unlimited does
Non-resident tags are over the counter in NC.
Same in Arkansas. Finding a place to hunt might not be easy, as most is private land or a draw on Game and Fish. I think the National Forrest is open but there is none near me so I have never hunted it. miles
Yes, time to go prairie dogging, coyote hunting, or come to WI,MN, or MI for an over the counter license.

I got a nice 8 ptr on public land in the U.P. Of MI last Fall, it can be done. That was about 1:00 in the afternoon on opening day.

Don't forget, you can get 2 extra doe/button-buck tags for $10.

Grab your fly rod ...

Tom
Kaiser, you should look into a NC or SC hunt! Reasonable license fees and liberal limits.
If you can swing it, I would look at this as an opportunity to go North and hunt the bruisers of Saskatchewan. That is something I dream of doing some day.

Yeah. I paid $125 for an OK lifetime license back in the 80's and could kill 6 or 7 with it if I learned to use a bow.

I've loved my trips to WY, but that hit-or-miss draw thing is pretty disappointing.

But...can you find property to hunt?

An honest question and not a smart remark. Can someone get 12 deer without an expensive lease?
That really does suck. It is hard for me to imagine that I could not hunt deer this coming deer season, how depressing. I feel fortunate that each year I am guaranteed deer tags in my home state. Two bucks and four does and I can buy more doe tags.

Any chance of getting a bow tag or muzzleloader tag? Here in Nebraska you can use a crossbow for archery season, and both archery and muzzleloader are unlimited/over the counter licenses.
No, muzzleloader buck tags are actually the hardest draw in the entire state.

Resident Archery is still over-the-counter for the time being.

No one in my family got drawn either, so looking elsewhere now.
i'd have to move.
go to the GA DNR website, put your credit card info in, print our your license.
I don't know about GA. Its no problem for me to kill six Deer in NC.... hunting public land. I did it every year until a couple of years ago. just hunt KY now.
Purchase an Anterless Tag for Nebraska. That is what I usually end up doing. Only shot 2 bucks during my deer hunting time and much prefer the does for eating. Walk a bunch of public land and you will most likely come across deer or hit the National Forest on the Border of South Dakota? Good luck.
Wow. I feel your pain. I have taken at least 2 deer a year for 20 years and usually have the opportunity to take a minimum of 3 or more. I have one buck tag left and am saving it for a big dog.

Truth is, have never given much thought to the fact that deer tags aren't automatic everywhere. I really don't know what else I would do with myself in the fall if I couldn't deer hunt. It is pretty much a way of life for myself and about a half dozen close friends.

I guess I would occupy my time with some different form of hunting or maybe take a trip, as some have suggested......
