I knew a giant would come out of the unit he was killed in this year. I just had a feeling.

What a buck! One of the all time greats imo. They say 278" but he looks better than that. What a deer and what a treat to get to see the picture

Figured that came out of that area that you guide in Drummond. You seeing some nice ones, over there, while your scouting?

I don't guide there. I just know it was due to throw a giant.
Yikes! When I was a kid (about 50 years ago) one of the guys hunting with my dad got one something like that. When they were packing it out with a Tote Goat it's nose was dragging on one side and its rear was dragging on the other. Had something like 15 points on one side and 13 on the other. The old guy who shot it was about 80 something at the time and shot it with his 30-30 rifle with irons.
Nice to know there are still bucks of our dreams out there somewhere.
WOW - that is all

The guides know when giants will be thrown. You must have guys offering to wipe your ass.

I figured that buck is around 300"

Those don't come along often, especially ones as pretty as that one.
Must have been on the property Ray Atkinson leases...

If it is they'll kill a couple more just like it this year.

311" gross, 308" net.

What a buck

If that is the case, the hunter should have held out for a bigger buck.
Nice symmetry for a NT
The right eye guard is a little short - I woulda had to pass on him.

Wow..

Late to the party here but that's one of the most incredible racks I've ever set eyes on.

Mind, officially blown.
Looks like the one they took with a bow on Live 2 Hunt with Cody Robbins this week.

Good Grief! What a buck!

Good lord.
Curious, what is the value on a rack of this caliber?
Posted By: 1911a1 Re: Buck of a Million Lifetimes - 10/23/14
Speechless!
Posted By: Scotty Re: Buck of a Million Lifetimes - 10/23/14
Amazing
I like his boots
That's just incredible. I don't recall but there can't be many bucks in the book that gross over 300.

That main frame is enormous...wonder what the main frame scores? Anyone seen a score sheet yet?
Wow, just wow!
Posted By: Huntr Re: Buck of a Million Lifetimes - 10/24/14
Amazing!
I wish we could see some field pics of this buck! Curious as to what type of terrain he was living in?
Holy phuggin' juniper tree...

WOW.

Damn shame if that turns out to be true.

I was thinking it, just didn't want to say it. grin
Taken on the Grand Mesa, supposedly up on Spruce Mountain. Spread was 42" wide. One hell of a buck!
That could qualify as a baby elk with a spread like that. All I can is wow. Cheers NC
What a giant. I'd love to just get to *see* a buck like that in the wild, let alone shoot one.

Well, I have a family member that knows the guy that took it. His son was on the hunt with the guy that shot the buck and it was taken during the 2nd season in unit 421 on the Grand Mesa. Here's a pic of the buck while it was in camp the evening it was taken and the young man that took it. By the way, this was a young local hunter that was hunting meat and there was no guide involved.

I read the CO papers daily and if this buck had been poached and the DOW had it, the papers would have the story. Bottom line, they dont. Not even the Grand Junction Sentinel has anything about a huge buck being poached and one like this would have made the papers!
Sweet! That is great to hear. Glad everything turned out to be legit, because that is one gagger of a buck!
Awesome, awesome buck. Congrats to the hunter. I concur with Pirate. I saw this the other day at Darryl's and it's even more impressive in person. No word of DOW having any issue with it and I just spoke to Darryl today. The Grand Mesa isn't (wasn't, at least) known for a lot of recent giant bucks. It gives hope to us regular folks!

Shameless plug for Darryl's web site I built for him: www.darrylstaxidermy.com

Good grief that buck is simply unbelievable.

Glad to hear it was not poached. That young guy has a lifetime of hunting ahead of him. He will nrver kill a bigger one.

But thats ok!
