Our late season ends in this area of PA on 1/28. I've got a few doe tags yet, but only wanted to take one more. This past Wed I got it done with the flintlock...nice mature doe that'll convert just fine into bologna, dried beef, sausage, and snack sticks. Well, except for the tenderloins (already cooked and eaten!) and the back straps. Those do NOT get ground or processed!

So, my deer season is over now. That was the third one for the year, and that's how many I use in a year (3 kids at home, we mow through venison fairly quickly). Time to get some vengeance on the tree rats for annoying me all season!

Hope you all had great hunts this year!

thanks!

Had the tenderloins the other night for dinner and the leftovers with eggs and taters this morning for breakfast. That was pretty darn good......

Well done! What are the particulars on the rifle? Looks like a nice one.

That's an early Reading/Christian Springs style rifle with a 46" Hoyt barrel in 62 caliber with a Davis lock. It was made by Allen Martin.

Great going doing it the old way.

Just how does one do that with venison?

Looks like a dandy! We used to live in NE Pa in the 70's and have good memories of flinter hunts after Christmas. Thanks, Bruce

Lol, that's just what I call it because that's what people understand. I've tried calling it "dried venison" and then no one knows what I'm talking about.
