Is there any way to find out what a Bronze star recipient may have done to receive it? We found my wife's fathers DD214 for WWII and it list two? She knows he was on one ship that was destroyed in battle and saved a few guys in the water.
Thanks for the any help

Best bet would be finding his citation if he kept it. Most of the navy records were destroyed in a fire, I believe in the 70's.

Look for Vet's organizations for that ship. If you can find some
shipmates someone may know.

Here's a book that apparently is about the ship:

I dont know about the Navy, but the Army doesnt put a copy of the citation that goes with the award in Personnel Records. The Army put a copy of the official orders that go with the award in the records. The recipient gets the citation and orders.

Now, back in WW2, who knows what they did.

It's been very confusing.I'm meeting with a couple guys this weekend at my Dad's old VFW and see if anyone remembers. This document is nothing like my dads DD214,but it has the same information?
Thanks
