Lest we forget...

Man that owned the local pharmacy in small Texas town I grew up in, had been a Navy corpsman stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, 1941. Guess it was around 1959 and I was about 11 years old and sitting at his soda counter having a float when subject of Pearl Harbor came up at the counter. Recall the owner speaking briefly about that day. Can't remember any details of what he said, other than "that was a heck of a day for me."

My dad had enlisted in the Army Air Corp to avoid being drafted into a branch of service he didn't want to be in. He'd enlisted several months before Pearl Harbor was attacked and was in Colorado undergoing his armorer training. Shortly later, he'd be assigned to what would become a light attack bomber squadron equipped with A20s. The squadron was sent to the Pacific for about three years of the war. He was the top sergeant in charge of its armorer section. Can't remember tons of bombs he and his men loaded in planes, but recall squadron used 1.5 million rounds of 50 cal....have a pamphlet with that info given men about their squadron when unit returned back to states and deactivated.

Can't recall ever asking my dad about that day Pearl was bombed. Where /what was he doing, how'd he react to the news and etc.

I knew one man who was there and was in the Navy. He owned a Nursery business in OK. I didn't pursue info and I regret that.
