Hi all,
Lets get down to it. If you have not looked at it yet go over to the Ask the Gunwriters forum and check out the threads on Clay Harvey.
Harvey wrote in a style that appealed to a lot of us non technical types. I for one enjoyed most of his writing. Shame that he got stupid. It does not change much about his books and some of his magazine stuff for me. It was good then and still is. If I look in the mirror the guy looking back has done a stupid thing or two in the past. Makes it easier for the dull people to shine! Anyone know what name he writes the novels under?

He might have written in a style that moved you, but it appears that much of what he wrote was untrue. I happen to like Peter Hathaway Capstick's books, but knowing that he inserted himself into other people's experiences has tempered my appreciation for his writing.

I have 3 Clay Harvey books in my library and they are OK reads, but certainly not in the upper class of writers like O'Connor, Keith, Wootters, or Koller. It seems to me that he rode the coat tails of his buddies Layne Simpson and Rick Jamison. Who knows, he might end up as a great fiction writer, he certainly has had enough practice. Since he and Layne were such good buddies, you might reach Clay via Layne.

He may indeed become a goodfiction writer.
Funny about O'Connor. He never wrote what I was interested in. I am more interested in lever action rifles and small game cartridges. I prefer "simple" writers such as Francis Sell.
I am not really interested in the .270 etc.
O'Connor's early writing is more interesting for me.
