Well... Congrats Kid! Actually not the answer I was seeking, but without my being bit yet more specific, yours seeming a perfect fit! So maybe 'one on me'! smile

The quiz answer I was seeking, in plain old 30-30 chambering, the Marlin "Octagon" Model. Not a commemorative, but a follow-on for a Commemorative that didn't sell in 1972, heralding "Zane Grey"; Unique feature of that era, a tapered octagon barrel in conjunction with the seventies era features. The Classic using up a barrel "overrun". Made for a single year only in 1973. You're entitled to the Grand Prize: A "Holiday for two!"* (* With my Mother-in-law!)

I'm not a big octagon barrel fan and I bought my specimen because 'I was there and a bit unusual' but I did like the straight grip stock and squared straight lever as of course "the backdrop" of such ornaments hung on a 336 Frame! Bit over two thousand allegedly made. Since then it grown on me for what it is! Photos below! (Gun, not Mother in Law!)

Thanks for participating!
Best
John
