Don't have a firm grip on lever action values. Local shop has a Marlin 336 in 44 mag. Barrel markings read 336-44 MAG. Gun is in what I would describe as perfect hunting condition. No cracks or big dents in stock. No rust or pitting, but blue is wearing thin over much of the gun. Front site need replaced, just the insert not the whole ramp. My immediate thought was the gun was way to cheap. What's the value of something like this. I'll go take pics tomorrow. Is there a premium for calibers other than 30/30?

you don't see the 336/44 too often. they seem to bring a bit more than a standard 30/30 in the same condition from what i see. i have never owned one but i have heard that those models had some feeding issues. i think they can be fixed though. if its a nice gun it ought to be worth $400-ish. anything less is probably a deal if it functions ok.

They have been selling on auction for well over $500. Some do have feeding issues. From what I've experienced, you either have a good one or not. Even an 1894 Marlin or Winnie in 44 can have issues. The 92 platform seems pretty solid.

I walked in the store and saw it on the shelf and it was priced at $249. Told him that was to low and he need to do some research on the gun and price it accordingly. The owner is a friend and I work there from time to time and wanted to be fair to him if I bought it.

The rub is he took it in on trade from one of his other workers husband. So if he prices it much higher then it looks like he took advantage of him.

for $249 i'd be there right now filling out the form.

I can't remember last time I saw one in any condition for under 450. Nice ones can go double.

That's a Texan with the ring, there were higher models w/ enhanced wood. 18.5 Bbl. ????? rather than the later 20"

Do the Texans have anything denoting them as Texans, or all the 44's with saddle rings and straight stocks, Texans?

I'd call anything with a saddle ring and a straight stock a Texan.

Some of the 80's models were named 336T or 336TS (T for Texan,S for safety) I'm guessing that one is older though. Straight stock 336 = Texan . Did you buy it yet?
