I've got a 1980 336 that's been sitting in my safe collecting dust.I've got a Dec deer tag in a no lead zone and I'm thinking about mounting a scope and taking it hunting.
Looks like I only have 3 choices and I'm wondering if any one has any experience on paper or game with the following.
Federal 150 Trophy Copper
Barnes Vortex 150 TSX FN
Hornady 140 Monoflex Full Boar
My local Bass Pro stocks the Federal and the Barnes.

I'm planning on mounting a 1x4.5 with no front bell and I'm going to use Talleys. Do I use low or extra low?
Thanks for your help.
Yes on the Talley extra low rings, the extra low will give your perfect eye alignment to the scopes eyepiece.

The Hornady all copper monoflex bullet has been hit or miss
in the micro groove rifling. I hope the Federal or Barnes shoot well for you. Just be sure your bore is cleaned of previous jacket material.

Doc
Doc Thanks for the info especially on the Hornady's. I bought a box of the Barnes Vortex tonight and will test them as soon as I get the scope mounted. I shoot Barnes in all my elk guns but have never used them for deer. Unfortunatly CA is going to non lead for everything including yotes and other pests.
Cutting Edge makes some bullets specifically for lever guns. They aren't cheap however

Not cheap, but effective.

Not a lever gun, a .308 to show Cutting Edge performance both at the range and on game.
