A friend has a 336 in 44 magnum, he says was made in mid-60's. Is this a rare rifle, and value of one of these in about 90%?

336s in 44 Magnum are both rare and pricey, but I don't know how pricey.

They are somewhat rare. I see them a whole lot more than I see Marauders, but less than I see pre safety 1894 44 mags. I have seen a few going for $500-700 the last couple of years.

Blue Book list several models, manufactured from 1963 to 1967.

These are reportedly becoming a bit of a collector's item so you might want to know that.
Blue Book doesn't give them any added value, at least in the one I have handy. But, at the marlinowners website they have been referred to as collectible.
Replacement parts for the 336-44 have become an issue. I found a 336-44 parts gun for $25.00 which needs a bolt and a extractor. At least the shell lifter is in the rifle and not broken.

Had one a few years ago and had constant feeding problems.
Had one problem too many and it left town.

That was one of the big problems with them and the reason I traded mine for a model 94.

That's what everybody seems to keep saying anyway. I've owned three. My first one I bought in 1967 and my son now owns it. I have had two since then and still own one that has found its final resting place. I have always regretted selling the one I don't own anymore, but a friend bought it and he isn't will ing to talk about selling it back.

I have shot tons of reloads as well as all different kinds of factory ammunition in these things and never had a feeding problem with them. I have a brother that has two and have never heard of any feeding problems with them either. Kind of hard to figureā€¦

Evidently some of them have been prone to feeding problems like the two y'all have had experience with and others seem to work fine. That might be the reason that Marlin decided to stop making them and switched to the 94 which was designed to handle short cartridges. Given the chance, I'd buy another one tomorrow and never look back.

Timely topic.

I have been seriously looking at selling mine. I have had it better than 20 years. ZERO feeding issues, but I simply never use it.

Getting it out to take pics, I forgot how well balanced this rifle is, with its slim fore end.

There was a reason they quit making them...MANY had feeding problems.

What others have said about feeding problems . A lot of folks deny same, but considering the rather small number made, there always are a few available for sale. ???

Best, jack
The feeding problems of the 336 in 44 mag. was do mostly to the long action of the 336 and the short round of the 44 mag. I had one and finally gave it to my son, but they are getting harder to find.

I saw one a while back at a gun show and kick myself everyday for not taking it home
