I thought that it was a Glenfield 30A, but it turned out to be a J.C. Penney 3040. Nice shape and out the door for $250. I needed this about I like I need a case of hemorrhoids, but I find it hard to leave a deal on the table.

good buy. i used to salivate over those in the early 70s' at the jcp counter. they were, if i remember correctly, $88 on sale. birch stock, cheapo leather sling.

be careful, guys have gotten addicted to collecting those off brand marlins. sears, kmart, pc penny, western auto, etc all rebranded them. i would buy any one i saw for $250 OTD.

Just before I bought this lever action 30-30, I almost bought an early 1970's vintage Winchester 94 in 30-30 with a Weaver side-mount for $375, but decided to walk around the last two rows of tables at the Fremont, NE, gun show this morning. The seller had, mostly, "mountain man" accessories and there wasn't a tag on this rifle, so when he finished selling a beaded leather pouch to the fellow ahead of me, I asked what he wanted for the rifle and he said $300, so I thanked him and started to walk away. Before I'd gone 2 steps, he asked if I'd take it for $250 and since that seemed like a fair price for an old house-brand rifle with a crappy leather sling and a no-name 4x40 scope, I told him that at $250 he had a deal.

you ended up with the better gun in my opinion.
